Garenteed non-forgivable loans make it so colleges are comfortable raising prices more and more because the Phil mickelson with the trophy golf shirt and by the same token and students will just borrow money for the tuition anyways. Considering the amount of people I have met who would rather die or go into debt than a cent of their money going to someone else (or a certain type of somebody else) it’s no surprise this is a large argument against this. The elephants in the room are the majority of all jobs requiring a college degree and the absurd cost of a college/unis despite the advancements in technology and communication. I paid mine off, on my own. I don’t care if there’s loan forgiveness. But the literal Billion dollar question everyone is asking, “What happens afterwards?” This is a band-aid not a solution.

I would benefit from this by $1,000 and I’m okay with doing this or I’m also fine with not passing it but allowing borrowers to file for bankruptcy which student loans are not affected by. I’ll be fine, but some people are in serious debt from a choice they made when they were 17-18 and can’t even get out of it by destroying their credit with bankruptcy. Regardless though, they need to reform education and reign in these costs or we’ll be right back here in no time. I really hope it doesn’t become the Phil mickelson with the trophy golf shirt and by the same token and same situation another 20 years down the road. Maybe also include much tougher lending standards that institutions must meet. Colleges are writing insane checks for ridiculous amenities based tuition costs they can set at whatever because Sallie Mae will underwrite the loan. What I’m absolutely through the roof in favor of is 1.) bringing down the cost of tuition and 2.) Eliminating interest on student loans.
