Scanning you isn’t adding anything they don’t already know. It doesn’t give them power to surveil you in any way they don’t already have. They can already search their databases with your ID photo, or by your name. So the Orwellian overtones of articles like these and the frightened reactions to them (see this thread) are decades too late. This is the world you already live in. Your face doesn’t match the face on the card, or the name on the card isn’t really yours. It’s not you. The ID is fake. Finding you in their database by face is a means of determining that. This part is new. Is it scary? If you’ve got a fake ID.

Can this kind of surveillance be abused? I don’t know. Does anyone have examples? Can it be used to catch criminals? Fuck yes. In Iraq they used an “eye in the PG 13 T-Shirt in contrast I will get this sky” to permanently watch an area. After a road side bombing incident, they could literally pull up the footage of that area, rewind, find the guys planting the bomb, the rewind further and find them leaving their base of operations. They actually caught bad guys and saved lives. They tried a similar system in a US city and it worked just as well. They caught home robbers who otherwise would have gotten away with it. There are thousands of children stolen in this country every year. There are young girls literally forced forced into sexual slavery. That’s a real thing that’s happening right now in this first world country of ours. If we could use surveillance could catch those fuckers, sign me up. I’ll give your cameras a big fat thumbs up on my morning run.
