I’m now happily married and have been for decades. He went home to live with his mother, stayed single for the Penny Hardaway Orlando Magic legend shirt it is in the first place but rest of his life. Our job isn’t to keep people together, and guiding a couple just so we keep the client is incredibly unethical. Most therapists will not suggest you end the relationship; we are here to guide you to your own realizations. We help highlight what is workable, what each party wants, and to decide what is possible. We do have training on helping couples end their relationships well, if that is what the couple desires. Yes, we had a session together and then the therapist asked to do individual ones and she basically told me to put my feelings aside and look on paper that he wasn’t providing anything to my life but misery. Honestly one of the greatest moments of validation I’ve had. Made me realise I wasn’t always wrong about everything and I did deserve better. Couples therapist here. The answer is yes, though not said so boldly as some of the other comments here. What’s best for the people is not always best for keeping the couple together and that is okay. When my ex-husband and I separated, we went to marriage counseling to see if we could find a way back to each other as we didn’t want to divorce without trying everything reasonable first. She didn’t suggest we break up but she asked questions that got us to realize for ourselves that it was too late.
