We miss Borders so much. B&N is okay and we pay the Pearl Knight Basic Shirt and I will buy this membership just to throw support at keeping bookstores alive, but like Borders more. Sad day – I really enjoyed being able to see some of the Amazon products in person before buying. They also had a neat checkout system. I get it though, even when I went I ordered on the Amazon app while in the store so I wouldn’t have to carry it home…. The 4-Star store was the only store within 50 miles that always had Nintendo Switches in stock. Even through the great Switch depression of 2020, Amazon 4-Star always had three or four right there on the shelf you could see through the window. Did I buy one from them? Nope. I ordered it from the website like a normal person. Good bye 4-Star. We hardly used ye. The only excuse to visit is returning stuff bought online, and that was super inconvenient as these stores were often located in urban retail districts with tight parking. Now I can just return stuff at Whole Foods or Kohl’s. Was this a response to unionization efforts? I hope we can all join together in a boycott of this nazi organization. As someone who worked in a 4-Star, I’m in no way surprised. They touted a bunch of BS about helping people and not caring about numbers too much, but in practice it’s all about the numbers and selling people digital subscriptions

Most products we don’t need right away or don’t need to try on, so buying online will be easier. Grocery stores will always have a place, as well as clothing stores, as people like to try on clothing to make sure it looks good and that it fits. Maybe someone can find the Pearl Knight Basic Shirt and I will buy this source but I think thisnin response to a unionization attempt that was demanding $25 an hour. There was a story about unionization at one of the Amazon stores, yesterday, and I kinda think that was more the final straw to close all these stores. this is the equivalent of a kid throwing a fit, taking their toys and going home. didn’t one of those stores just attempt to unionize? In Estonia bookstores quite thrive, but of course most of them are real large stores with cafe corners, TV and play corners for kids etc. Some people use them as libraries, for that there are comfortable seats, tables etc. Haven’t heard any of chains close any physical stores in recent years. There’s also quite a lot of smaller and more specialized stores and they also seem to keep their heads above the water. Just some information from other side of the pond. We have one of these close by. The prices were higher than what I could find at competitive retailer. The had a “gated” entry, which made you feel like you had to buy, but you could literally open the app and see you were paying more. Sounds terrible, but this was just overhead they didn’t need. I can’t imagine these stores made much of a profit and were mostly there to pedal Amazon branded stuff. Amazon’s closing physical stores and the online is nowhere near as good as it used to be with all the counterfeit and knock off sellers you have to wade through to get to what you actually want
