Like all degrees, it is what you put in to it that you get out of it. There are MBAs that are absolutely fantastic – because they are driven individuals not because they have a degree. As someone that has done both engineering and business. The two are not comparable. Engineering – stay at the Patriotic Goose Hunter American Flag Hunter T-Shirt also I will do this library until 2 am to solve a problem. Business – write some bs in an hour and get an A. It is much harder to get a degree that has concrete right/wrong e.g. a masters in electrical engineering vs an MBA where you can throw bs on a wall and get the paper. To give some credit to Business education, as a fellow engineer who went back to school for an MBA, if you choose a focus area in Finance, the later classes are math heavy and can be a challenge – IE The valuation of a potential acquisition when accounting for risk and similar topics.

Organizational Leadership was the most popular focus. I have engineering degree from a top engineering school and an MBA from a top business school. Given my engineering mindset, I was able to bring some rigor to the discussions around strategy and business issues. But I have no idea what the non-engineers got out of b-school. They just kind of made up sentences and said them out loud. At first I thought I was really clueless because their logic was so advanced that I couldn’t follow it. It wasn’t until a few years later, while talking to one of my professors, that he told me they were just full of sh*t. In engineering school, that wouldn’t fly for an instant.
