Think that is supposedly the Patrick Mahomes number 15 Kansas City Chiefs football player portrait lightning shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this closest. Least the more high brow southern accent. Not the southern drawl usually associated with say cowboys. Kind of makes sense if that’s the case. The south was from the beginning home to the more upper crust of the colonists. The north was more full of the random immigrants from all over the uk and beyond(Netherlands, French, etc.) Ah yea the “Old Virginia” accent. It’s kinda a shame that accent died out. Since it sounded pretty sophisticated compared to the “other” southern accent. Suppose it’s for the best tho given the circumstances of who exactly was using it. This is not really true. The closest (to my ear) modern accent to Elizabethan English accents spoken in the south would be a West Country accent, think Hagrid or pirates.

Probably because zed makes no sense. It is an odd, unnecessary, divergence from how other letters are pronounced. The others either end in “ee” or “ay” or end in their own sound rather than these. H, I, O, Q, U, W, Y are oddities as well, but none end in a random other letter sound. I think it’s cute when someone uses “zed” but it is a rather weird way to end the Patrick Mahomes number 15 Kansas City Chiefs football player portrait lightning shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this alphabet given the pattern of how letters tend to be pronounced established immediately prior. Rather jarring for the uninitiated W is really weird in that the “name” it is given is a description of what the letter looks like. I think that w should be “double u” and W should be “double v” Most of the answers here are incorrect. Basically z is a character that has had varying pronunciations and even spellings throughout history. At the time of US colonization a particular variant was pronounced zee. Here is one reference you can research this on: I’m from the UK but grew up watching sesame Street. As a result, even now at 34 I often accidentally say zee instead of zed. wow, you sent me down a bit of a rabbit hole, i’m a bit shocked the beeb hated sesame street so much and it was so controversial there, i had assumed there had been a localized coproduction there like in many other countries A lot of things in American English are because of Noah Webster’s standardisation of American English. Which is partly responsible for the homogenisation of American accents (along with education reforms in the 1800s).
