The thing is, sometimes people ask this questions for validation, they want to hear the Party On Xmas Christmas shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this opposite. But it’s not our jobs to be a validation machine. They need to work on their insecurities, on their own. Always blame the clothes, not the body. Clothing is designed for different body types. If a person tries on enough dresses they will find one that is flattering to their body type, no matter their size. This is true no matter how heavy, too. If the person you’re with ever gains or loses more weight than preferred, unless you are no longer planning to be in a relationship with them, you say something more like, “No, it’s just not the right cut for you to flatter you the way this other one does” sort of answer. It’s kind of fascinating to me that you were able to explain it thoughtfully and reassuringly to us but not to her.

Party On Xmas Christmas shirt, hoodie, tank top, sweater and long sleeve t-shirt

I understand that perhaps her phrasing (like with the Party On Xmas Christmas shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this “right?”) may have sounded casual and like she wouldn’t be offended by you agreeing in an equally casual manner. But that is a question you should never say yes to, no matter if it’s true (but especially in a situation like this where you knew it wasn’t and had a good explanation for why it wasn’t). Tell her never to ask your opinion again because she only wants to hear what she wants to hear and you’ll get attacked if you say anything different to what she wants to hear. There is no benefit to you, only risk. “Hey, what’s your thoughts on this dress? And your thoughts better be on point with what I want to hear or else!” F that. No thanks.

1. Length is measured from the highest point on the collar down to the bottom hem. 2. Width is measured across the body of the shirt under the armpits, one way. 3. Sleeves are measured from center back to hem.
