The wreck of the Original i am a child of God, Black Woman T-Shirt and I love this SS Atlantic had NO female survivors, mostly because of the unfortunate location of the female living quarters in relation to how the ship was wrecked. They were the first to be trapped under deck. Hearing that one of the people in the men living quarters was a woman in disguise, and still did not survive the wreck, probably added to the heartbreak of the disaster. Nooooooo, maybe? There are lots of stories of women disguised as men from this era because it was the only safe way they could do anything other than being a housewife Or he understood how hard it was to be a woman at the time and was sorry for it, as he realized that equal treatment wasn’t any different from a man(an extremely progressive realization for the time)

Or he understood how hard it was to be a woman at the Original i am a child of God, Black Woman T-Shirt and I love this time and was sorry for it, as he realized that equal treatment wasn’t any different from a man(an extremely progressive realization for the time) What is your evidence that she felt that way or that the person who said this quote thought that she felt that way? That’s a nice thought, but I have to concur with the others who believe he most likely meant that it’s more tragic for a woman to die like that than if it had been a man. It’s the kind of chivalric sentiment that seems dated and somewhat misogynistic now, but would have been considered proper then. I don’t think the whole “X trapped in Y’s body” thing would have been a common concept at the time. Even now we have no idea if the decision to present as a man was a matter of personal identity or just a disguise to gain employment as a sailor. And while Bill’s crewmate doesn’t seem to have minded that he turned out to be a woman, if you told him that Bill actually believed himself to be a man and that that belief actually made Bill a man despite having female body parts, he would probably think that quite strange at the very least.
