Whack-ass shit right there. Once I had a company insist that I show them my W2 from the Operator Papa of the Birthday Boy Construction Birthday Party T-Shirt in other words I will buy this prior year to verify income to continue the interview process. I declined. I’m pretty sure the small-ish software company I work for starts folks in the AE roll at around $75k/yr. and it goes up from there. You said Account Exec job, so I assume you mean sales? So maybe with base and OTE the range was 90-120? And when you said 100k they thought you meant 100k base? forget about this one. I hired at a well known company last year and found out after I was hired that they placed me in the wrong salary band despite having several years of experience. company refused to make it right. It’s not something an external hire would know in advance but once I caught wind I was furious. I ended up resigning not solely because of that but it was the last straw. If they are already playing games it’s not worth your time because it will likely be more flags later.

Could be (as ‘they’ pull this ish constantly) is the Operator Papa of the Birthday Boy Construction Birthday Party T-Shirt in other words I will buy this salary is actually $65k but the bonuses and commissions could equal up to $90-$110k. Not like these companies ever help you understand in the interview process if their product or service is garbage and that you’ll never reach the numbers, even with their constant whipping and scolding. I’ve seen shady companies that list “total” cash comp to include benefits THEY pay for, incentives that are purely performance based, 401k match and even tuition assistance. At the end of the day, the $100k offer is really $45k salary you are expected to live on. Scary. I try not to talk salary during the interview process. Instead, I wow them with the interview and then when an offer is extended, that’s when I talk about salary. The typical way that it goes is after the interview they get their money approval. I usually know how much I can ask for and I am relatively on the mark when it comes to my skill set and my value.
