Some people dream of seeing it and go to extraordinary efforts to do it. Honestly, I just got lucky…

During covid, we didn’t lose our need to travel, so tried to find creative ways to go places that were outdoors, didn’t require a plane, etc. We learned SeaWorld was re-opening, their discovery cove park is all outdoors as well, so we just went on a road trip (we all know FL didn’t lock down long! ha!) We got an entire wing of a hotel to ourselves because no one was there and they spaced people out, and there were very very few people at seaworld. The amazing part we experienced was the animals. It was clear they missed people, and they were all just facinated with us. I was having an afternoon beer outside a locals cafe in Amsterdam. I started petting a stranger’s dogs, which lead to chatting with them. After about 10 minutes they said they were off, and invited me to come aboard their boat to cruise the Once you get past my anxiety awkwardness dark humor RBF shirt and by the same token and canals and enjoy wine/charcuterie. We were in Vegas during EDC (Electric Daisy Festival) weekend. We only had VIP Sunday tickets so the Once you get past my anxiety awkwardness dark humor RBF shirt and by the same token and plan was to see DeadMau5 at the club on Friday, see Alesso at a pool party on Sat and then go to the festival on Sunday. If bottle service at the club and pool party was expensive, getting a table at one of the most happening event in Vegas was a huge flex. Our VIP ticket could not even get us in to their section since it was only for people who got bottle service. Turns out there was an extra VIP section we didn’t know about. I was lucky enough to sneak in but my friend was not able to since the bouncer stopped him. Spent an hour partying with them before I went back to my group.

It was supposed to be an online ticket when I bought it but the (idiot?) seller didn’t have an online ticket but a physical ticket and sent me photos of his physical ticket through email.
In March of 2011 I was working for a Delta subsidiary as ground crew. As a result, I had flight benefits. A friend and I were wanting to go somewhere international for a few days. We had decided on going to Japan for a few days. For anyone traveling on flight benefits, you would know that this is typically non-revenue travel, meaning you’re basically placed on a standby list and if there’s room on the Once you get past my anxiety awkwardness dark humor RBF shirt and by the same token and plane, you get a seat. Just after lockdown, so it was just me and them in the woods. Squirrels are quite rare where I live. I paid 70 Euros for breakfast and early access to the Vatican Museum. Breakfast at 7 am, entry to the museum at 8 am, and the general public was allowed in at 9 am. When we were allowed to enter the museum, I rushed to the Sistine Chapel. I was one of only 2-3 people there for probably 20 minutes before a couple other people from breakfast joined us. It was amazing to have that space virtually to myself. I stood with my guide book and took my time visually exploring the art on the ceiling, reading a bit, looking up, reading a bit, looking up, and just taking it all in.

By the time I got back to the Sistine Chapel, it was a crowded, noisy and chaotic place. Gave us food and everything Traveled to Dubai to visit a friend. Tried the gold coffee in Burj Al Arab, one of the managers gave us 4 free croissants. Also on the same trip, we went to Abu Dhabi and visited Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental. Again, we were having coffee, and this manager comes up to us to give us a free chocolate cake. My friend and I were so surprised, we felt so lucky for the kindness of the staff who gave us free food!
In 2020, my bf and I were supposed to leave for a trip to Dubai that lovely week in March when the Once you get past my anxiety awkwardness dark humor RBF shirt and by the same token and world shutdown. So I told him our story and he makes a call and says “Go up to the big church on the hill. So we do. The man in the big church says the one church is closed right now but open for liturgy at 2pm. The other church is being worked on because of earthquake damage but here is the key. Have a look and bring it back when you finish. So we walked to the church and got a little lost so I asked an elderly fellow in a car. He says its very close, I will take you there and anyone who doesn’t fit in the car can just follow behind. So we get there and it’s a tiny little church filled with frescoes behind some scaffolding but you can still see everything. It was special and amazing. But then, when we walked out the gentleman waited for us and said, if you have time I’d love to offer some wine. Turns out he is one of the few winemakers who make list, a sweet wine made of dried grapes, and so we learned about that as well. It was the most magical day that you simply couldn’t plan.

She complimented our kimono and thanked us for visiting Japan and experiencing the culture. We talked about how long we had been together and that this was our delayed honeymoon and shared wedding pictures with her. We talked about our jobs and what made us come to Japan, and overall was a very wholesome experience. At the end she gave us a small gift and wished us luck in our lives and marriage and gave us some blessings.
Flew into Frankfurt for a ~5 week trip and made my way to the Once you get past my anxiety awkwardness dark humor RBF shirt and by the same token and train station so I could make my way to Innsbruck later that day. Was quite warm by the time I got there and sat my stuff down to take my jacket off and figure out where to go. Figured out what train to get and got my ticket.. headed to the lounge to wait for a few minutes. Get to the lounge and go to use my phone and realize I dont have it. So I freaked out and ran back down to the main area to find my phone still sitting on the ledge. Saw multiple rainbows while in Ireland – which was amazing in itself but the most amazing Rainbow was over the Ring of Kerry while looking out over the Ladies View scenic stop. Amazing! Dad and I went for a night walk in Panama City around our hotel, looking for frogs. I saw branches shaking, went over the tree, shined my flashlight up to the branches, and saw Panamanian night monkeys staring down at us. We stared at each other for a few minutes before they moved off. Kayaking in Kaikoura in NZ a little blue penguin popped up right beside me in the ocean which apparently doesn’t happen often.
Same trip we paid for a basic helicopter trip up to a glacier and we got upgraded to a better package, and later won a competition to get one of our flights free. I witnessed a lion pride hunt and eat a warthog while on Safari in South Africa. The game driver said it was a once in a lifetime experience and seeing hunts is really lucky. Don’t know if this counts but we went to Venice the Once you get past my anxiety awkwardness dark humor RBF shirt and by the same token and week Italy opened again for tourists in June 2021. Even with all the covid testing we were subjected to for arrival and departure, it was so worth it. The town was alive but not busy. Every restaurant had seats available. It was warm but not blistering hot for the summer. Got great pictures everywhere. No crowds. A lot of people say Venice is overrated due to the crowds but so we felt we lucked out getting to it see it in the summer without it. Felt like it was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for me and my fiancée. Not sure if it’ll ever be like that in Venice again.

I was meant to do the full ring road over 9 days, but due to weather in the northwest, I had to turn around right after Lake Myvatn. I ended up leaving my rental car at the port for Vestmannaeyjar for two days, hopping on a ferry, and wandering around the island on foot. On first day there, I climbed to the rim of the Edell volcano and was all alone up there. Slow tourism week, I suppose. That night, I got alerts on my phone that the northern lights were very likely to be seen in the area. I wandered around the harbour area where the app said they were visible, but it was quite lit up and I could only kind of sort of see them out of the corner of my eye when not looking directly at the artificial lights. I though that was going to be the totality of my viewing. Something called me back towards the lava field around the volcano before I went back to my accommodation. It was dark and uneven and probably the not the smartest move to be wandering around on my own, but after about ten minutes or so of doing so, the Northern Lights were directly overhead for about another ten minutes. So bright, the best way I’ve ever been able to describe it is like a flashlight in the sky. Just me, in a pitchblack lava field in Iceland, and the most vivid green lights I’ve ever seen. I’m so lucky to have seen that.
1964- Two of our classes from the Once you get past my anxiety awkwardness dark humor RBF shirt and by the same token and American School on the Peshawar, Pakistan Air Force base took a field trip to see the Buddhas in the Bamiyan Valley of Afghanistan. We traveled in a rickety school bus in questionable condition over the long, winding dirt highway. (This was before it was paved and given guard rails.) We probably drove the driver mad with our loud singing of 100 Bottles of Beer on the Wall. I’m not sure it was related, but the bus driver scared us to death! He would drive so close to the edge as we climbed the curvy Himalayan mountain that we could see over the side where wrecked trucks and busses lay. Kids would yell “Move back to the other side!” hoping to shift the weight to the mountain wall side. Nothing shuts up a group of 12-yr-olds like that sight did (for a while). We had to stop when faced with any oncoming vehicles when one of us had to back up until the road could fit us both. There were hardly any straight parts, so we had to do a blind reverse around the curves. It was a lonnng drive, but not as long as the return trip over the same highway. 😀
