There was a whole thing in The Netherlands where people who have US citizenship and have never set foot on american soil found out they needed to so taxes and were told they could no longer keep their bank account. And try to find an affordable tax lawyer who really knows the US tax system and won’t just tell you to simplify your financial situation so your tax filing doesn’t become a nightmare for them. It is not an ‘inconvenience’, it really makes you question werher you want to remain a citizen for the benefits of moving (back) there one day or being able to visit easily. It’s sad and makes leef needlessly complicated and financially restrictive. And if it is to keep the rich from getting richer, why the heck are they not taxing the rich to begin with on US soil doe the benefit of the actual citizens?

Things that are a tax free or tax advantaged in one country are often not in the US. Following 2 tax codes limits you a lot if you want to invest. You do not need a lot of capital to get screwed.
