Oh I am 37 and just going full on crazy lady dressing. I did a couple years of neutrals and bored myself to death. I get this and now I’m feeling the On a dark desert highway cool wind in my hair UPS plain snoopy shirt also I will do this urge to do the opposite.? I’m 47 and I feel like I’m ready to stop being serious about adulthood because I’ve done that long enough. Now I’m starting buy colors and feminine clothes, which I haven’t done since I was about 11. Hopefully I won’t go off the edge and look like a sad, poorly aging woman, but I also don’t care that much if I do, lol. To hell with that – when I’m 80, 47 will look like 20 does to me now. I used to want to be cool in a mysterious and chill way: having a uniform of Parisian-style, or monochrome minimalism. And that’s just not me. I’m more cool in a WOW, look at HER! Non-chill way. Lol. I’ve grown into a chameleon who bounces daily from gothic/Matrix vibes to Barbie/bimbo/e-girl vibes to Princess/romance vibes always with an aura of maximalist eccentric extra-ness. Also, I’m a geriatric millennial who is HEAVILY influenced by Gen Z fashion. Haha! Wishing you easier times ahead and a way forward to a style and life that helps foster happiness for you, whatever it might be!

I think I’ve always struggled with finding a good balance between what I think I should be wearing (because I was bullied a lot as a kid / teenager and desperately wanted to fit in) vs what my real style is and suits me best (French style / fitted clothing). I’m now in the On a dark desert highway cool wind in my hair UPS plain snoopy shirt also I will do this first half of my thirties and I think I’m starting to become more confident in my fashion choices. I realized after having a baby and hitting my career stride in my 30s that I had accidentally focused my style on being low-maintenance and leaning forever 21. I realized I didn’t necessarily want people to think I’m in my early 20s, and maybe my emphasis on being low-maintenance was part of some “myth of the effortless woman” and “not like the other girls” bullshit that had snuck into my psyche and found a corner to inhabit. So I started to update my style to better reflect the middle aged, confident, accomplished woman that I work hard to be. I invested in better fabrics that require more care; I’m not as sloppy as I used to be. I learned how to care for my curly hair, even if it means way more time spent setting it up for success (my younger self would’ve rolled her tomboy eyes). I don’t dress as “hot” because I’ve lost all interest in being the over sexualized hot girl.
