80k is about what I make and it’s plenty for me to buy a modest home, save for retirement, do fun stuff, grocery shop without checking prices, take a couple trips each year, etc. and I’m not in a LCOL area. I personally wanted to quit my business once I reached a certain (seemingly unreachable) goal. But once I did I felt I couldn’t. Not really because of greed for money or power but because it didn’t feel like I’ve accomplished what I wanted to. It felt unfinished, so I continued. I’m way ahead now and actually don’t know when to stop. Psychologically it’s very hard to do. A couple of interesting things I’ve gathered while chatting to them are, if you’ve spent your life acting in a certain way, say 20-30 years or more, once you hit a financial point, you can’t change overnight. They keep making money by default. Years of habit forming behaviour can’t just be turned off by numbers on a screen.
