Felt very alone, met no tourists, hostel staff and other hosts couldn’t speak english, only saw Taiwanese travellers groups. Staff generally were not receptive to speaking English, let alone willing to help. Even hostile when I couldn’t respond to them in their Mandarin or broken English, expecting me to understand. There’s nothing there. And not in a good way. San Andres is like a poor man’s version of a typical mass tourism hotspot. Providencia is just poverty and rude people. It’s like a tropical favela, minus the crime. Just don’t go. Terrible experience.

Last time I transited there I thought I’d spend a night in a hotel 7km from the Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Noches Ene Be A Somos Los Thunder 2024 Shirt and by the same token and airport. I shit you not, I had to wait 40 minutes for Grab to pick me up and 1h42m to reach the hotel. Shocking comment, Lisbon. I planned to stay for the summer and I just didn’t love it. I felt it would be fantastic for holiday but not the best for me working/living especially given I was working EST timezone. Didn’t help that TapAir lost my luggage haha. I noped out of there and back to London where I visited and moved in with a friend of friend. Best decision ever, though I’d like to go back to Lisbon for vacation. Lisbon has been overwhelmed by tourism. The airport is way too small to handle it. The tourists and the expats are driving up rent, so the locals are pissed (I don’t blame them). That said, I never had any negativity from any Portuguese people, and found them to be quite friendly. I have a feeling though that Lisbon 10-20 years ago before it became a go-to destination, was better.
