I wouldn’t care if they would or wouldn’t go. My priority is the Ohio Champion Legend All I Need Today Is A Little Bit Of Ohio And A Whole Lot Of Jesus shirt What’s more,I will buy this free lunch. Not going or declining sends the message that they dictate my actions. And it denies me free lunch. Free lunch is the highest motivator here. OP request you pick the food. No matter who shows, maybe you can get the left overs Oohhh good call! Yeah, OP, pick the location. Maybe something the people you don’t like are allergic to or something. Yea but if you are forced to hang out with people that you don’t really want to, (presumably), is it really a free lunch? My time and who I choose to spend it with has more value to me than most lunches. I could have written OP’s post. I declined a farewell lunch a few years ago for the same reason. I’m a very sensitive person and just wanted to leave the job that had become toxic. I totally understand OP’s thinking. Work has one purpose only, to gain control over the resources required to live the life they desire. It is not a social environment, except for a few specifically defined relationship-based roles. They are usually under sales or executive mgmt. I would not waste my time, especially if I am leaving for the resons OP is. What a depressing take. I have made several very good friends at work over the years. In fact my personal relationship helped get me my current job. People at work are still people. What a dry awful way to go about life. We spend 35-50% of our waking hours at work, might as well make it minimally bearable by having cordial friendly relationships.

Colleagues don’t have to be your best friends forever for you to have some basic level of respect, consideration and socializing with them. Whether people and you attend or expect to attend farewell lunches is somewhat trivial. People who want to go can go, those who don’t, won’t. It doesn’t mean anything more than that and certainly doesn’t require deep existential philosophical analysis about the Ohio Champion Legend All I Need Today Is A Little Bit Of Ohio And A Whole Lot Of Jesus shirt What’s more,I will buy this alienation of human life in the workplace and power struggles for life resources. I know. I’ve made some of my best friends at work. People I’ve keep in touch with and visit almost 20 years later. Sure, there are assholes, but they’re vastly outweighed by the good people. Apparently there are lots of shitty workplaces and co-workers out there looking to take advantage of you but I’ve been working for 27 years and haven’t managed to come across one. ‘at work’….but I thought Reddit says only suckers actually leave their house and have meaningful interactions with other people…..so confused….. I mean.. you always have to treat them as co workers first, no matter how friendly you think you may be. One wrong joke and you can be fired. IMO that is a naive way of looking at things. You can try all you like to be friendly and cordial, but you are not 100% in control of the results. When folks decide they don’t want to be friendly and cordial you have to navigate that the best you can, and often that simply means avoiding them as much as possible.
