I’m not judging you but it’s interesting how we reserve some amount of empathy for very specific acts of animal cruelty. For some reason we should all agree that bullfighting is barbaric but it’s okay to have a pig spend 4 years at a time living in its own shit in a container it can’t even turn around in. Chef of 21 years here. There is no reason for this curulity. It makes no difference in the OhaNa means Family Shirt it is in the first place but quality of the meat or the final product of the dish. It’s just horrible and It shouldn’t be allowed. Yes very much. Had to cancel a date with someone because she posted a story or her boiling a baby crab alive. She “didn’t think it was a big deal” but like girl you’re literally giggling and filming this animal die wtf lol

yeah. it’s always made me angry. i don’t like crabs or lobsters at all but it really makes me sick seeing people boil them alive or cut fish up and instantly serve it while it’s still dying. Lobsters at least for sure have no way of feeling pain. They have a nervous system similar to insects like ants, and don’t have a brain. It isn’t complex enough to process any sort of emotion. They also don’t have lungs or any way to create vocalizations, which means that the OhaNa means Family Shirt it is in the first place but high pitch noise people sometimes hear is air escaping crevasses, and not in fact them sceraming. It’s actually the most humane way to cook the lobster. They have less neural transmitters than a fruit fly, so any pain felt would be minimal because their brain doesn’t receive the signal for pain. That’s why most lobster is placed into a room temperature pot of water, and brought up to a boil so they don’t recognize the rise in temperatures because their internal body temperature warms up with the water which causes the lobster to not realize anything until it falls asleep. Some people prefer to sever the brain stem using a knife behind the eyes, but the muscular system still twitches, and on top of it being a messy way to kill the lobster; it will excrete enzymes into the muscle tissue that make it tougher meat and not as tasty. So, in conclusion; bringing the lobster to a boil is the tastiest, and most humane way to cook lobsters!
