Allen has been a popular pick for MVP in recent years, but his stats don’t always back up the hype. In 2021, he threw for 4,407 yards and 36 touchdowns, but he also had 15 interceptions and was sacked 33 times. He also led the Bills to a 11-6 record, but they lost in the playoffs to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Mayfield has also been a popular pick for MVP in recent years, but he has also been inconsistent. In 2021, he threw for 3,010 yards and 17 touchdowns, but he also had 13 interceptions and was sacked 43 times. He also led the Browns to an 8-9 record, and they missed the playoffs.

There are a few reasons why Allen and Mayfield are so overrated. First, they both play for teams that have a lot of other talented players. The Bills have Stefon Diggs, Gabriel Davis, and Isaiah McKenzie at wide receiver, and they have a strong running game led by Devin Singletary. The Browns have Nick Chubb, Kareem Hunt, and Odell Beckham Jr. at wide receiver, and they have a strong offensive line.

Second, Allen and Mayfield both have a lot of potential. Allen is a big, strong quarterback with a cannon arm. Mayfield is a smaller quarterback, but he is very accurate and has a lot of mobility. Both quarterbacks have shown flashes of brilliance, but they have also been inconsistent.
Third, Allen and Mayfield both play in big markets. The Bills are one of the most popular teams in the NFL, and the Browns are one of the most talked-about teams in the league. This gives Allen and Mayfield a lot of exposure, and it helps to make them more popular than they deserve to be.
There are a number of other quarterbacks in the NFL who are more deserving of MVP consideration than Allen and Mayfield. Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Josh Burrow are all better quarterbacks than Allen and Mayfield, and they all play for teams that are more successful.
