India and Egypt are very different. I’ve been to both. I love India. I’ve been twice and will go back. India isn’t for everyone but it’s a very special place. I can’t say whether you’d experience sexual harassment as a single female, but you’ll definitely be harassed for money, purchases, rides, etc., but you get used to it I travelled alone in India. I am a woman. Nothing happened I never felt scared. But that is just my experience, I don’t know how common it actually is to be harassed. But do you mean that you will be with a group? The train station is awful. I traveled to India with my husband for 2 weeks a few years ago. I was groped in every place we went to, except Goa. I have a coworker who lived in India for a year (not sure exactly where) and she was never touched. We’re both white women. If you are a solo female traveler thinking of going to India, please DONT. There are plenty of safer and women friendly countries to travel in SE Asia, try those first. If you must must travel to India, do it as a group tour preferably or you have a street smart Indian friend tagging along who you completely trust. Hey! I’m in Indian woman (solo traveller as well) and I wouldn’t recommend it as a solo traveller. If you’re okay with changing up your itinerary and doing southern India instead (start with Mumbai – goa- kerala) – and do not stay in the dingy places wherever you go. The Golden triangle is extremely overrated. But you could just do a day trip to Taj Mahal if you start your journey in Delhi.

I am an American woman who lived in Delhi for several years. My advice is: Don’t go as a solo female. You will be hounded relentlessly. I’m sure you could accomplish this but other alternatives may be a more pleasant experience for you, and you could always go to India with someone else later. While I am a Delhiite, I would suggest you explore Jaipur, Goa, Rishikesh and skip Agra and Delhi. I think Agra is a little too overrated. If you want to do Delhi, make the itinerary for a day or two only. and if you need any help on Delhi or otherwise you can message me. Also, don’t go for the most cheapest hotel. When you are booking a hotel, check photos and take at least a 4 star and above. Indian woman here and a fellow solo traveler. A tour is the best way to go to India if youre alone, and a highly suggest you for at least 2 weeks. So much to see. You will be blown away. Dont reject the idea of going, just make sure youre prepared. Delhi resident here, you’ll definitely be ogled and generally uncomfortable. Some cities are more unsafe when it comes to taking ubers in the evening. You’ll have to exercise caution, I am sorry this is what the places are like. Mumbai is a good city which is decently safe (so is Pondicherry, white town is fantastic this time of the year), finding a group to travel with will help.
