Our local trains, often called the October woman the soul of a mermaid the fire of a lioness the heart of a hippie flowers shirt but in fact I love this lifeline of the city—they serve over 8 million people every day—much like the Mumbai dabbawalas, took a step out of the ordinary when they decided to suspend all services. The dabbawalas, a six-sigma company [which supplies lunches to commuters], disrupted services for the first time in its 130-year history. Soon, events were cancelled, stores and malls were closed, restaurants were shut (barring the few odd deliveries), sidewalks were empty, and travel, like all other things we had taken for granted, was not permitted. We could no longer order in anything and everything we wanted, we couldn’t see our loved ones, we couldn’t even sit by the sea or walk on the promenade, which, as any local will tell you, is an integral part of calling this city home.

A fresh vocabulary has ushered in thiOctober woman the soul of a mermaid the fire of a lioness the heart of a hippie flowers shirt but in fact I love this s stay-at-home world: Our phone-wallet-keys arsenal is now replaced by gloves, masks and hand sanitizer. Our everyday conversations are now peppered with words such as “social distancing” and “self-quarantine.”
