everything in our our mammalian brain tells us to reproduce from a young age. As was the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this case for our ancestors. its what made us so successful. My school only offered those for people who took this specific human development class, which I took. When it was time to return the baby, my teacher couldn’t make it to school so I had to carry the baby around all day. Everyone thought it was a real baby since it wasn’t actually a project offered and people FREAKED on me. Almost got the cops called bc I stuffed it into my gym locker Are boys required to participate in this mandatory “exercise”? When they are, does that cause the program to be effective in preventing pregnancy? I completely forgot about these things. I remember I had to keep mine and in the middle of the night it wouldn’t stop crying and I shook it and when “WHY WON’T YOU SHUT UP!”…anyways, I got an A.
Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt: Express with Style
We had these in our middle school home ec class and when I did mine, I got the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this “special needs” baby which just cries way more. We went on a family trip the weekend I received the fake baby and it glitched out and started making a nonstop noise that sounded like a vacuum cleaner engine. My granddad finally pulled the battery out to save us all from the noise. Which meant I auto failed the assignment until he called the school ranting about how god awful the sound was and how it ruined our family vacation. I wouldn’t say it deterred me from teen pregnancy (sex education and unholy fear of the very same granddad did that well enough), but it didn’t inspire it either. My school had these, but only if you took an elective class in child development (which gave you credit at a nearby college towards an early childhood education diploma). So about thirty kids in the school would be lugging around screaming robot babies for a week. The other teachers, as you can imagine, were just thrilled.
My school had these (and I believe still does), but as part of a Home Economics/Intro to Family Planning/Basic Parenting type class where they’d teach you how to run a household, cook some basic meals, and such. Probably because the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this kids are all supposed to fail. We remembered that part, right? No students are passing ‘Ruin-yo-Life 101’ are they? I took mine apart and figured out the electronics. Bypassed them with a relay circuit that responded to the sensors. Basically when the diaper sensor went off the signal went to relay and then switched it on indicating the diaper had been changed. My mistake was not considering they could see how long it took between sensor trip and sensor reset….the data showed I was changing the diaper in 10ms. Oops. Either way just reinforced that I never wanted children. Could it be that these were used more in areas with more teenage pregnancy and by that also making it look like they increased teenage pregnancy?

Who says these are to deter teen pregnancy? I thought they were to teach some responsibilities of being a parent. If anything this is exactly what I would’ve thought would happen If Australian school works anything like the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this UK the girls were in this class because they were taking the easiest class to pass, like btec 1 health and social care instead of gcse exams. There is a correlation but the cause… Are these folks in poor city and poor suburban school districts? When. Dealing with poverty there’s a lot that goes into teen pregnancy. we spent weeks learning about sex ed, condoms, STDs, sexual orientations, we watched Juno, and THEN we had the robot babies. we had to wear a bracelet so when it cried, we had to put our activation chip on the baby’s belly so it can collect data that we are next to the baby and about to take care of it. and once it’s done crying, changing the diaper, or needing to burp, it’ll do a small satisfied sigh. hated the thing there were a lot of dos and don’ts. the baby was crying so much at night. I just laid it next to me in bed (big no no, because it can also detect if weight is on it and if it can breathe. lucky me that i didn’t roll on top of it) That title statistic is meaningless unless we are told if it is higher or lower than the rate before the dolls were brought in. Correlation =|= causality. Theory: Biased sample group. They used the infant simulator in schools with already higher than normal pregnancy rates. They wouldn’t use a pregnancy deterrent in schools without a teen pregnancy issue. We need to see the rates before and after the implementation of the infant simulator program at the same schools.
The people who made that a thing hated raising children and the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this kids who used the dolls were like “Oh this is alright I guess not horrible” We had the eggs in middle school and the baby sims freshman year. A week with the eggs, two days with the baby’s. When I was in school in the 90s I was never aware it was a device used to “deter” it felt more like a home ec. assignment you took home. Just another lesson. Visiting your cousins trailer and babysitting their kid for an hour was the greatest “deferent” ever. Nothing beats real life experience. Yea some girls I went to school with REALLY wanted to be moms. I remember a girl my junior year had a miscarriage and she was devastated and said she would keep trying. It boggles my mind. The amount of sabotage that happened in the hallways was concerning. I think out of the 30 kids in my class, only 8 or 9 made it to the end of the week with their baby not full of holes from pens and pencils. Do they really think the dolls are increasing the amount of teen pregnancy or the type of school that would deploy dolls because of their already existing teen pregnancy problem, they just don’t work. It’s almost like teenagers have this un developed brain that constantly tells them “it won’t happen to me” and lacks critical thinking skills.
And top that with poor education on how pregnancy happens, poor social education to learn no means no and you’re allowed to say no and leave…and how these babies are often given out in classes that are more geared towards females like Home etc and Health…well it’s no wonder. Plus you rarely see the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this guys toting these dolls around, you don’t see the football coach allowing the star quarterback to stop practice to handle the screaming doll. Which just plays into multiple stigmas. Not to even mention dealing with a doll with a clear head and a full night of sleep is not the same as dealing with a real life human with real consequences on a couple of hours of sleep, whacked out hormones, a big c section scar or a bruised up/ripped up vaginal opening, and leaky/raw nipples. And after nine months of your body going through intense mental and physical changes. These dolls could never really show the difficulty and reality of those first three to six months after giving birth. I really don’t see how these could help at all. But not everyone knows someone who just had a newborn, because living 24/7 with a real newborn baby is the best birth control. The idea of getting pregnant within the first 6 months after giving birth was panic inducing.
Was made to have one for a week in middle school. I wanted to murder the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this fucking thing. They have timers and during the day it didnt do much. After school hours though, literally cried every 15-45 mins. I opted to write an essay regarding child rearing instead. I think finding out that the absolute bare minimum to raise a child was $250,000 (and this was in around 2010) probably would have done alot more to deter teens making $13/hr instead of a fake baby. Simulating the consequences of sex isn’t going to stop most people from it. Certainly not a teenager designed to be exploding with hormones and wanting to fuck anything. Teaching them proper sex education and giving them access to contraception is how you let them safely explore the urge you can’t stop.
I wonder if they controlled for race and SES and compared similar groups. This study design seems like there could be tons of bias involved or you know, actually teach them compressive sex ed, and make birth control easy to get. that REALLY reduces teen pregnancies I heard a public radio story about a couple of girls who got the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this dolls. A religious girl wanted to get married and have children early in her life. Her friend wanted to get a master’s degree, get a career going, then maybe marry and have a child in her early thirties. The religious girl had a hard time with a doll, enough to make her question all of her plans. Her friend did a great job with the doll and was proud of herself for overcoming that challenge, to the point that she thought about having a child earlier in her life than she had planned. Those getting pregnant are in a high risk group. Did this make it so fewer in that group got pregnant (for all we know, prior to doll use 50% got pregnant by age 20)
Edit: Getting pregnant 2 to 3 years after High School is not a real shocking thing. I’d rather see stats for those 17/18 and younger Probably because the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this kind of school that uses stuff like these also teach abstinence-only and then surprised_pikachu.jpg when failing to provide comprehensive sex education results in more teen pregnancies. Is that causal or correlational? Was this measure was introduced in schools where teenage pregnancies were already higher than the general population? i had one of those dolls in an elective class i took in grade 12, family planning. i had my first – and only second- pregnancy scare at 23. i don’t believe that 2016 study at all. out of the 25 girls in my class, only 5 of them got pregnant between the ages of 18-24. technically that’s only about 25%, not close to 36% at all. granted, i live somewhere you can get free or very low cost birth control. i got my nexplanon implant for free after my pregnancy scare. most girls get IUD’s for free for the same reason. the women’s clinic in town does $5 birth control pills for a monthly pack. comparing the pregnancy rates of different schools doesn’t make sense. did the pre program pregnancy rate drop at the schools after they implemented it or not? because there are so many other factors involved with different school districts. How does that even happen? Does it turn girls who wouldn’t have considered it otherwise on to the idea of having a child? Do they spend the time taking care of the doll and think “See? Taking care of a kid isn’t that hard?”
My niece brought one of these with her to spend the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this weekend with me and my wife and I failed it for her. I am happily childless and I was more than happy to reach out to her teacher and suggest that i could disable it gracefully or not, her choice. We had those when I was in high school and I’ll never forget two of my friends literately throwing them like footballs towards each other during lunch. They took care of them so badly that I think the babies shut down due to neglect and they got an F for the class. It’s pretty ironic since they’re both dads now and they’re better fathers than some I know. They were just goobers, haha. Makes perfect sense. You’re putting something in their train of thought on a constant basis and normalising it at a young age. It was incredibly dumb for people to think this would deter getting pregnant…
As a someone who became a father at 21 with a second one at 26 the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this hard part isn’t the first year or two it’s around 4 or so when they start to walk and talk go to school form dislikes and likes, an actual person that will talk back or throw a tantrum. New borns and up to two for my experience were very easy to take care of especially with all the cues for feeding or dirty diaper. Biggest fear though was SIDS. I’d mildly lose my shit if I (as a man, but regardless of being a man or woman) got that. I’d silence it, permanently. OK so teen girls have raging hormones that exist to encourage them to mate and get pregnant. Teen girls also love babies. The solution is obvious apparently, give them babies that go away. All the fun, none of the commitment. Yeah that’ll show em. As a non-American, I saw these referenced in several American shows and as a kid just could not figure out if these were real or just a shared, fictive plot device to get a protagonist to watch a baby while engaging in hijinks without the contrivance of an actual baby there. It still feels very weird that this was ever a thing and I am unsurprised that it doesn’t work.
The horror stories from the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this ones who got saddled with it drilled condoms and other birth control into us pretty hard. I remember being genuinely upset we were never given fake babies in school when every show I watched had that happen. Usually eggs or bags of flour tho. I had one of these my junior year of high school. I’m 38, kid free and had a vasectomy a few years back. Happily married and have zero regrets. Ah yes the baby dolls that teach you to silence a screaming baby by… Jamming a key into its back and twisting until it stops. This is going to affect natural selection. Eventually women willing or wanting to have children are going to out populate their peers. Used to be a thing to steal these and toss them off the 2nd or 3rd floor because they had sensors in them that affected the girls grade who had the doll. Or is it that these programs are more likely to be implemented in areas with high teen pregnancy in the first place? What they REALLY need to do is teach kids the realities of pregnancy and childbirth. I bet you that will strike down teen pregnancies.
Way back when I was a kid, there must have been some kind of organized push to scare kids away from pregnancy. At least once a week there was some sort of movie plot about it. The girl was a genius bound for college and a great job in New York but got pregnant and ended up living in a trailer park with an abusive boyfriend. If it was meant to scare the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this boys, the kid was a football prodigy recruited by all the big colleges with a guaranteed job with a pro team. After he got the girl pregnant he had to drop out of school, lost all his friends and would up working in a salt mine or construction site getting beat up by the foreman every day. I stuck one of these babies in a backpack and went on a 30 mile bike ride. I have no idea how I didnt fail this section.
116 more repliesI had one of these robo-babies in Grade 11 (2009) for a weekend. The thing must’ve been set on ‘cholic’ because it would not stop screaming. Within 45 minutes of having it home I wanted to yeet it out a window. I didn’t want kids before and that monstrosity didn’t change my mind. My high school made both guys and girls take it home by sharing custody as “partners” in whatever class they did this in. Edit: they didn’t have to pair guy and girl I believe. I think the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this point was that everyone had the choice of having a partner and just because you were a guy in the class didn’t mean you were going to sit iut If people had to defend a baby tames on a public ark survival with just you and one other person for 2 weeks that would be a better deterrent.
I was so glad to escape this (HS in the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this early aughts) just before they started with these baby think-it-over dolls. First of all, I’ve never wanted children, so the very concept seemed insulting. Second of all, the dolls were a colossal waste of money (especially as we were using decades-old textbooks and losing arts programs left and right). Third of all, it should be obvious that a doll does NOT replicate the experience of an actual human infant…being able to hit a button might give a sense of false confidence that you could be a good parent, but actual babies are infinitely more complicated. I had a particularly realistic teacher that assigned 4 students in the class to be the following Four Horsemen of Baby Death: Each Horseman was tasked with being on the lookout for dolls left alone or otherwise not being tended to. They were also given their own dolls. (One of the Horsemen decided to claim their own doll and completed their presentation on Interpersonal Abuse because with most babies that die of child abuse … their abuser is their parent. It was a good presentation that stuck with me for literally 30 years.)
At the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this end of the assignment, each Horseman had to reveal whose doll’s fake lives they claimed and give a real-life example from the news of a child dying their assigned Horseman Death. Gosh I have a horrible memory of having one of these, you got docked points if you let it cry too long. I was driving on the highway to school with it when it started crying, and the stretch of highway I was on had very narrow shoulders. As a 16 year old I had to navigate getting to a shoulder in rush hour so I could pull over and console the dang thing. On the good side, I’m 32 now and have yet to get pregnant! Could this be because the girls taking the classes with childcare lessons, are more likely to be the ones planning on being stay at home moms? My high school did this, but only for the girls. The boys didn’t have to deal with it at all. And I thought that was pretty messed up and was encouraging irresponsible boys that getting a girl pregnant wasn’t their problem. So I demanded to take care of one of these babies too. The strangest thing for me was that people in public would often mistake the doll as real and I heard how multiple girls from my class got rebuked for being whores, while if I got any remark at all it was praise and recognition for being responsible. That was really eye-opening about the social expectations of teen pregnancy.
It turns out there might actually not be a good alternative to teaching sex ed. So you should just teach proper sex Ed. It has been repeatedly proven that abstinence ed does not work and in fact only makes things worse. And I should point out a lot of the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this schools that use these dolls did not teach proper sex ed. But that really shouldn’t surprise anybody because most schools in the US don’t teach proper sex ed. I had a neighbor kid who got one of these dolls. He came hone from school and threw it on his roof and went on about his life. He climbed up at the end of the week and brought it down to turn on. He had a baby brother. He said i alreasy raised my baby brother i dont need a stupid doll or this school to tell me how to do it.
I went to Catholic school for pre-school through high school. We were obviously fed the Oakland Athletics mom always cheering glove finding shirt moreover I will buy this line about premarital sex being a mortal sin and condom usage being a sin as well. And also birth control being a sin too. But as early as the fifth grade they explained to us scientifically how STDs and pregnancies occur. They explained why people would use condoms. They explained that if you are using birth control after a pregnancy to stabilize hormones is not a sin (but I guess this is not the best practice anymore, I am not a doctor). In high school we watch And the Band Played On in biology class. In Health and wellness we played a game with M&Ms to simulate how an STI traverses through a sexually active population. We did NOT do the banana exercise but we were instructed by our teacher(specifically chosen because she was not a Roman Catholic) about the efficacy of birth control options both at preventing pregnancy and preventing STI exposure. The closest thing we ever got to an abstinence only party line was the upfront blanket statement that the only real way to prevent STI or a pregnancy is to not have sex. Then there was a joke about even that not being 100% effective for pregnancy. That joke was used again when we learned about parthenogenesis in biology class.
