Kids will naturally stop eating when they are satisfied. Not even remotely close. I’m advocating that kids have enough food that they can simply stop eating when they are satisfied. You’ve gotta lay the foundation for healthy eating habits to make it easier on them later on Sounds like you have had some issue with this. The reason is simple, kids NEED to be disciplined and taught. How else do you teach a kid, that doesn’t want to do something or eat something, to do it? You lead by example and you sometimes have to be forceful (for lack of a better word) to a kid. Not physically forceful, I just mean by persuasion, or with a little volume in your voice. That’s primarily what’s wrong with kids today; no discipline, no respect, and parents don’t make kids do anything they don’t want to do. The result is bratty kids that don’t listen to their parents and/or don’t respect their elders. I don’t believe in belittling, screaming, cursing, and I don’t believe in spanking a kid older than about 3/4. The reason is when they are younger, you can’t reason with a toddler, so you give him/her a spank on their bottom or their hand. They understand that. When they get a little older you CAN reason with them and if they don’t comply, you don’t hit them, you take away something important to them, like their favorite toy or gaming system, and they SHOULD learn without being hit. My wife used to pinch them behind their arm (not too hard) when they misbehaved to a certain point. It was very effective. Just the thought of getting pinched fixed the issue most of the time. So the point is to raise respectful, disciplined and healthy children.

I was born early and was small all my childhood growing up. My dad didn’t make a lot of money and he thought I was wasting food if I didn’t eat what was on my plate; regardless if I liked it or not. What I’ve learned as a parent is it’s your job to feed your kid; it’s the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Snoopy Family Christmas Tree shirt (2) in other words I will buy this kid’s job to decide if they’re hungry or not. I will never force my kid to eat something he doesn’t want to eat. Because it’s frustrating to the parents. And often justifiably. Sometimes, kids might not be in the mood for that particular food, they forget which foods they like and dislike, kids will change their mind in between bites, etc. And all of that is fine, it happens. But as a parent, you’re supposed to be feeding these kid things, and its frustrating when they don’t like bacon from day to day, or get upset because they can’t have a bag of chips while I’m in the middle of cooking a meal. My kids think a plain and dry burger from McDonald’s is the greatest goddam hamburger in Texas! It’s frustrating sometimes.
