When I was in the office I used to finish at 6pm and everyone else finished at 5 or 5:30. The phones turned off at 5:30 so that last 30 minutes was my only guaranteed period of peace and quiet during the day. It was my most productive part of the day knowing I wasn’t going to be interrupted by an impromptu conference call or some inane question every 15 to 30 minutes. On the days I had nothing to do I’d go for a shit.

These two people would spend the last half an hour of the four week period checking if they had reached 147 hours. All their belongings would be packed, and coats on but just paced to and fro until the time clock reached the magic 147. Being so blatant felt like time theft.
