I’ve never actually wanted kids, but the Norm macDonald rest in peace rip norm macDonald classic shirt and I love this nail in the coffin is the fear that I’ll pass on my mental health issues to my child. I have been struggling with my mental health for as long as I can remember, and it can be so isolating to feel like you can’t even trust yourself. I can’t trust my mind or my body anymore, and it would kill me to see that in my child. I’m autistic so I don’t want to pass on the hardships that come with it in this judgemental world. Also I just dislike children a lot; they whine, take up all your attention, they’re dirty, cost a shitton of money, and you’ll have no freedom any longer as a parent. There’s no chill with a child, your house is always overthrown, your entire life revolves around said child and I’m not willing to give up my freedom whatsoever. I have way too many interests and hobbies and really couldn’t fit in caring for a child without having to give up what I love.

The only thing trusted sources agree on is that it will happen. The rest of the details there are a zillion version of how it will play out which implies that nobody really knows the details of the when and the how. If I have children now they will grow up in a very uncertain/anxious world. Even if I relocate to a country that will be safe from the consequences of climate change, the resulting wars and climate refugees are still going to affect that country to degrees we probably can not even begin to fathom with today’s peaceful standards.
