I say Donostia because my wife is Basque and would murder me if she caught me saying “San Sebastian” lol . Interesting. Wife and I spent a month in Barcelona and we loved it. This means we absolutely have to go back to Spain at some point! Usually the people that love Barcelona love it because it’s the first and only place they visit and they don’t realize how many cities in Spain are similar, but cheaper, less crowded and with less petty theft. The other type of people that love Barcelona are the ones that have spent extensive time there. Most people who live there rarely ever go to the really touristy parts in the centre, like Las Ramblas. There are loads of other neighbourhoods with so much to offer if you just get off the tourist trail. For sure didn’t see any other cities, but also wasn’t really worried about petty theft either. Utilizing common sense city logic, I was able to leave with all my belongings. That’s good but Barcelona is notorious (even for Spaniards) for it’s unbelievably high pick pocket and petty thefts Langkawi. I stayed in Kuah to avoid the tourist side a bit, and locals were so miserable and unfriendly. The island was riddled with massive tour busses, so any of the tourist attractions were full. I had such high hopes but really hated it. Just wasn’t for me.

I had completely opposite experience, super friendly people, smiling all the Nope not again shirt so you should to go to store and get this time (comparing to bored people in KL), and few tourists, just the beach suck water is black sewage, not a paradise I actually disliked Japan but stayed more than two months… it wasn’t bad per se, I just wish i had done a shorter stay. I feel like it’s good for tourism but I do not enjoy living in Japan cities. Osaka and Tokyo both left me wishing I was back in Southeast Asia. Kyoto was lovely though. On multiple occasions a random woman in the street would ask me if I wanted “young girls”. Also had one of the worst cases of street kids begging I’ve seen. Being a nomad there was also tough bc when I tried what looked to be a good coworking space they were just randomly closed with a sign “gone today” and when I tried working from different Starbucks they didn’t have wifi. I’ve been to countless cash-dependent countries but only there did no 711 take credit or debit cards.
