I think this is something that held over from when food was less available. Kids were forced to eat because that was all there is and food was harder to get. It couldn’t be wasted. I don’t do it, my daughter can eat however much she wants and stop whenever but I think that’s probably why it started My kid doesn’t like to sit down and eat a meal. We don’t give him adult sized portions, but we do give him healthy and good amounts of food. He doesn’t like drinking water just normally, so this is our way of ensuring he’s at least getting some hydration. Third’s time, he takes entirely too long to just eat a meal. Any plans we make, which are usually family plans for like a movie night or a Smash Bros session, end up having to be cancelled or pushed back to another night because he will take well over an hour to eat sometimes.
