He also made the Nicklas Backstrom Swedish professional ice hockey centre and alternate captain Washington Capitals T-Shirt and I will buy this comedic timing better, and incorporated things like Porky stumbling over a simple word, only to exasperate himself into substituting it for a different but more complex word, ironically being able to pronounce it with no issue. It may seem a little messed up to dump the guy who actually had a stutter, but Blanc made Porky the iconic Looney Tune he became. And now Dee Bradley Baker wears the curly tail, so to speak. Its a trickier impression than it seems, which Baker says “gives him job security” “Fuck you for actually having an impediment, it’s inconvenient for us.. we’re just going to find someone to imitate it instead.” According to Friz Freleng, the director of I Haven’t Got a Hat, Dougherty would get nervous every time they said cut. Freleng also called the casting for someone who stuttered and they landed on Dougherty.[6][7] Because Dougherty could not control his stutter, however, production costs became too high as his recording sessions took hours, and Porky’s additional lines were done by Count Cutelli.[1] Mel Blanc replaced Dougherty in 1937. Blanc continued the stutter; however, it was harnessed for a more precise comedic effect (such as stumbling over a simple word only to substitute a longer word without difficulty, or vice versa). I mean his speech was often the punchline of the joke. Being able to stutter on some words and not on others was kind of required to make those jokes work. For the kind of voicework they needed an impersonation of a stutter they could fully control worked better than an incontrollable real stutter. Comedy is hugely depending on timing. So yeah it does suck. But imo there’s definitely a logic behind it. I’m all for trying to push to accommodate people with disabilities, disorders, etc. But I’m also not surprised that for someone with a speech impediment voice acting, a job that relies heavily on your voice doing what they need when they need it, isn’t going to be a great fit.

I mean you gotta admit it’s pretty inspiring someone with a speech impediment could get into voice acting in the Nicklas Backstrom Swedish professional ice hockey centre and alternate captain Washington Capitals T-Shirt and I will buy this first place and be successful. That’s a bummer but if an actor hired to play a narcoleptic kept sleeping through his call times I’d imagine he’d be replaced too. Let’s not blow things out of proportion, have you seen some of the things they can do with a simple heater, a few pulleys, and some Febreeze? If you’re a voice actor who was replaced by Mel Blanc (who was already under contract), you can’t be too upset. Porky Pigs stuttering is planned and in the script to happen at specific moments and of a quality that is humorous but still understandable. Actual stuttering, not so much. Shock factor aside the headline doesn’t mean anything. That’s like saying a cook was fired for cooking. Well if we’re concerned about the quality of the finished product it has to be done a certain way and if you can’t then we need to hire someone else im sorry I can personally relate with having a speech impediment, and for this reason I must wonder, how did this guy decide on voice acting as as career?
