This happened in Manlius outside of Syracuse. The spot it happened at is literally called the Nice john carpenter’s halloween the night he came home shirt and I love this Swan Pond. The pond is gated, and there have always been a male and female pair of swans named Faye and Manny. They’ve been targeted before. A couple years ago, someone smashed the eggs. These kids knew what they were doing. The story keeps changing that they thought they were ducks. They were hunting because one had a license. They were going to raise the swans. A couple were found in a pet store. Nothing consistent. It’s sad all around. The courts should tie the dead swans around their necks and make them wear the corpses for 30 days as a punishment. They killed and ate the female swan, and took the cygnets. From the news article, I believe that all of the cygnets were recovered alive.

I mean jail is a bit much but you ARE on to something with the Nice john carpenter’s halloween the night he came home shirt and I love this ID thing. If they can’t tell the difference between a swan and a duck then they shouldn’t be allowed to hunt. They should be banned from getting hunting licenses for 10yrs-life, and since they discharged weapons in a park they should be charged on gun crimes and have their guns confiscated. To hunt ducks you have to quickly identify species and often gender before firing. It is not easy, but anyone that wants to hunt ducks takes the time to learn. In Germany to even be eligible for a hunting license you have to take an exam on how to identify species by gender by season and what is legal when and where. The book for the test is like 1.5 inches thick and the exam is no joke. Once you pass then you can apply for a license. I don’t see why that shouldn’t be a thing in the US. It varies by state. The state I’m in requires everyone born after a certain year (something like 1960) to complete a hunter’s education course before you can get a license. In my state it was several weekends long, my friends and I completed it when we were 13.
