It seems we (society) are being pressured to act, and when we do, it’s wrong. You don’t have to go to college to get a career, unless you have some sort of unique skill that you need to sharpen up with college. 60% of the time, it’s just going to be a better choice to learn plumbing, pipe fitting, or another generic trade where you can move up the ladder through a union. And if you were born rich and don’t work at all, then you’re an admirable individualist, a pinnacle of society who made all the right decisions. Yep, that’s it. People with “merit” just want to convince us that we haven’t done enough no matter what we have done. (l recommend listening to Millencolin’s “no cigar”.) Not that there isn’t problems with our systems. That’s inherent in man made everything. But, even in an idealized world, you could still do it all correct and fail.

59 more repliesIf you’re working blue-collar jobs (i.e.- production line, manufacturing, construction) you shouldn’t be struggling with wages…I started out on a production line filling boxes with parts to build garage doors. $17.50 to start and .60 raises every 6 months. That job starts at $24.50/hr but requires mechanical experience (of which I have from being an auto tech, before badly herniating 2 disks in my lower spine and having to start my career from scratch at 33…Or continue wrenching and possibly re-injuring myself ). It’s hard fucking work. Any production job is, even just filling boxes with parts. I’ve seen many many people come-and-go in a matter of days to weeks because it ain’t easy being on your feet moving nonstop for 10-12 hours, 4 days a week. It’s definitely not for everybody. Isolation and hard work what I’m doing now and you’re for sure treated as disposable if you aren’t brown-nosing (I do, but not because I enjoy it, I enjoy getting $).
