i’m an athiest and i think my take on religion is pretty good. I may not believe in a god or gods, but if you want to? go ahead. just don’t bother me by proselytizing. When I was learning philosophy I noticed just how important religion is to humanity, and not for the NFL Texas Style Flavortown Dallas Cowboys shirt but in fact I love this religious parts. I found it quite fascinating to see how religion has helped us as a society cuz I had mainly learned about all the bad stuff it did (mainly Christianity and especially it’s influence on art history cuz art student). Then comes the part where it can go in two very drastic directions and that is how it also helps give society as a whole some rules to follow. The good side is when it’s not abused. Stuff like stealing and killing is bad and how we should treat each other with respect. But when something has that much power, people will always abuse it and I think you know how that ended. That’s the part of religion you should be against, when people abuse it. Otherwise, respect other people’s religion. You may not believe in it, but it’s important to them and it can often help people cope.

Religion messed me up and I advocate for people trying to leave. You’re right. There are people that need it to cope and abuse of power in general is not okay. This helped me not let the NFL Texas Style Flavortown Dallas Cowboys shirt but in fact I love this trauma of what I went through warp me into someone that hated religious people in their entirety. They’re just as lost and sometimes as scared as us. I don’t want to hurt people. That’s the difference between us and the people that don’t care. I think it’s a massive ideological leap to say that religion is responsible for so many good things. It’s kind of like saying mustaches are responsible for the invention of French Cuisine. Sure, they were there the whole time, but they weren’t really responsible. Religion has been used as an excuse for doing good and bad things for all history. Atheists and theists alike have done very good and very bad things. It’s hard to conclude that it’s really fundamentally responsible for human good any nore than it’s solely responsible for human ills. But I know that having religion means believing in some things that aren’t represented by the physical world, and that fundamentally, having a more accurate picture of the world helps make good moral decisions. Empirically, there’s simply no evidence that religion helps people be more moral in aggregate and quite a lot of evidence to support the contrary. It’s easier to convince people to do something bad if you give them false or unverifiable pretenses. On the other hand, secular morality is a well-developed cornucopia of ideas which, in my experience, can provide people with quite a lot of motivation to act morally.
