Certainly, some of those people living pay-check to pay-check make terrible financial decisions and they might be able to budget and do much better. My parents, like most adults, would benefit greatly by spending some time to educate themselves regarding their finances. I see this with so many damn people. Even friends and family members that have a wage of several hundred grand a year. Yes, they’re not technically struggling for money, but that’s only because they make so much. If their earning power wasn’t as great, they’d be struggling as well because they spend their money unwisely. I find it so odd that people will go through all this schooling and pay tens of thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of dollars for an education, yet are unwilling to read a dozen or two books on personal finances and greatly increase their quality of life and take years off their time to retirement.

I’ve been fortunate. My first real place on my own, I lucked into a very affordable place in a moderately-MCOL area. Soon after I moved into another situation that was also a boon, my previous neighbors’ rent nearly doubled on average.
