18% is a pretty small number. I’d imagine that you could likely find 18% of people who feel any way about anything. Just got done reading a book called a escape from camp 14. A lot of the New nightmare on elm street 1984 neon vintage freddy krueger classic hirt Besides,I will do this book addresses this issue of defectors and their struggles after getting out of N Korea. I recommend this read for anyone that is interested, but warning, it is extremely graphic. Maybe it would be more interesting to research how they feel once society opens up – because you dont have to be a north korean refuge to feel incredibly isolated and lonely during covid! I recently saw a documentary series about a secret sadistic S. Korean game show in which a defector is featured as suffering from these issues. Probs bc they all have trauma and haven’t been socialised properly so they can’t integrate themselves into a slightly more healthy society There is no such thing as a real Utopia. They may have found the grass was not greener on the other side, and some of the corruption that comes with capitalism was not comforting. I can see how coming from an ideal of everyone supporting each other to a culture of everyone out for themselves in constant competition, might seem cold. So what you’re saying is: 4/5 defectors do no regret moving to South Korea? That sounds pretty positive! Especially when you consider what a massive life upheaval it is to move country. Here’s my two cents. A lot of immigrants experience this especially if they come from a country that is viewed negatively by the rest of the world going to a first world country. Aside from N. Ks there’s Middle Eastern people moving to western countries, Africans moving to Some Asian Countries and Asian people moving to western countries especially after 2020

Ever hear of Stockholm Syndrom? Also their family is killed if somebody leaves, so needless to say unless they can get the New nightmare on elm street 1984 neon vintage freddy krueger classic hirt Besides,I will do this family across they’re also fucked Welcome to freedom. It can be very scary if you’ve never experienced it before, but once you understand it’s power you will never want to go back. Having grown up in a cult where we were not meant to associate with “worldly people” and we were conditioned so much with scare tactics. I can understand the difficulty. We also have to learn who we really are as cults take your ability to think for yourself and what you actually believe in. What did I really enjoy? Who am I ?I had the worse social anxiety, still do to a degree. So many go back to the cult I was in because it’s more comfortable in a way. Plus in the cult I was part of if you left you got shunned by family and friends especially if you did something bad in their eyes. Most people find that really hard to deal with so they cave and go back. Lots of psychological mind games go on. I forgot about how much this takes a toll on people. It’s not a simple as escaping a regime, it follows you in the mind. It’s not surprising. I was stationed there for two years in the US Military and even I could see how poorly they treated North Korean defectors. If the Koreas ever reunite, it’s going to be a shitshow. Strange title, but really interested in the 1 in 5 person. I thought it would be knowing their family was killed or put into a camp when they defected. But seems it was the impact of the cultural, social and economic change from north to south. Their world completely changed and they were unable to find how to fit into it.
