Of course, you have to worry about a nuclear armed country with nothing to lose. There’s a real balancing act at play. Totally rout Russia and Putin could launch nukes. Be too easy on them and they will reconstitute overtime and be a belligerent asshole again. And pushing for regime change is Russian roulette as well (no pun intended). The next leader could be worse than Putin. There’s a lot of smart people in Russia and their diaspora has the Never underestimate an old man with a fishing rob who was born in May shirt in addition I really love this makings of a modern economy. You have to “unsilence” those voices so that real accountable adult leadership can be put in charge democratically. I’m hoping for the best. I’ve always heard that nukes require tons of maintenance or they degrade into uselessness over time. I wonder if their nuclear arsenal looks like the rest of their equipment. I keep seeing people say “the next leader might be worse than putin.” I find that incredibly hard to believe. Putin is a shadow crafter that has built everything he is now teetering on over the course of ~40 years. And that’s not including the childhood and early career in the KGB during the USSR. This guy was literally born and raised and molded to become who he is today, in the position he is today. Even if there was a second guy (yes I’m assuming a guy) right behind him, let’s even say he was personally mentored by putin in secret. The idea that he would not LEARN from this conflict and the socioeconomic devastation resulting and realize that if you want to run a mob state you simply mimic a legitimate state and collect the money while the rest of the world trusts that your legitimate. Putin would not seem so bad if he didn’t arrogantly seize Crimea and Chechnya and just installed puppets to operate in the shadows. (Hello China don’t think we don’t see you)

My rambling point is. 200%, there is zero chance “the Never underestimate an old man with a fishing rob who was born in May shirt in addition I really love this next guy” is worse than putin. Because if he was even half as competent as Putin could have been. A majority of the world wouldn’t even care to know his name. Unless we elect the wrong person. The last guy would have had the Americans sending weapons to Russia instead of Ukraine. Put a tax on Russian oil and gas exports (import tariffs) so the state has to discount its price to compete (eg, $100 bbl market, $60/bbl tax, with cost of say $10/bbl, Russia has to sell for $40/bbl gross and profits fall from $90 to $30/bbl) It’s funny, when you have the GDP of Florida, maintaining 6000 warheads is a bit above your pay grade. Indeed, even the 1500 they say are active is above it.
