Elden Ring, like other dark souls games is a PvE oriented game, and therefore balancing items for PvP shouldn’t be a priority. It eliminates basically all challenge in the open and turns boss fights into jokes. You don’t have to time dodges at all, you’re completely invincible for 95% of the animation and can use it to escape faster than running. The fact that the number one tip for hard bosses is “use BHS” is very telling. You can make the very valid argument that there should be overpowered options in PVE for people who aren’t as good but at some point I feel like it starts to detract from the game experience itself. Anyone complaining about the game being too hard or too easy can simply do or not do certain things to change that. NG+ is a waste of time. The game is long enough to have experienced all the game has to offer in one play through. Replaying the game multiple times is not a good use of your time. The endings and quests do not matter, the game devolves into just a cheesey combat meat grinder if you take out the discovery and exploration from playing the game fresh the first time. A big part of the game is the discovery and being surprised.

Coming from r/popular, I’m sick of this game showing up everywhere and would have more fun breaking the Never Underestimate An Old Man Who Loves Irish Whiskey Shirt but in fact I love this game instead of playing it at this point. What they did to executioners greatsword in this game was a crime! It was perfect how it was in dark souls 3 but they had to turn it into a magic weapon! Most ER bosses are very disappointing as a previous Souls fan. Especially coming from DS3. The “combo-diversity”, AoE spam, and running away make most of these bosses chores instead of fun, cinematic experiences. The open world of the game is fantastic and is definitely one of the best but it does use the ubisoft formula, it repeats the same different things to do all over the map, caves and catacombs, has rarer repeated things, evergoal, hero’s tombs, a huge majority of boss fights are repeated, like erdtree avatars, nights cavalry, the fucking dragons, god damn fucking godrick ffs, and they all have the exact same move set, maybe they’ll do a different status effect but they all attack the same.
