The only real place anyone could take an issue there is that ‘black’ is a big set of cultural stereotypes in a way that ‘brown-haired’ or ‘tall’ isn’t. To call a person ‘black’ is to associate them with a cultural group, presumptively, because of their skin colour. While I’m sure you didn’t intend any harm, you were ignorant to that fact and didn’t question your terminology before using it. I’m not sure I’d call it ‘racism’, you probably just went along with how you were socialised. Anyone who has a go at you for it is being unproductive, it’s just a ‘you probably shouldn’t say that’ moment. Ok I’m black and not from the Never underestimate a woman who loves Eeyore shirt also I will do this USA here, I’m know I’m gonna get downvoted a lot but that’s only because most reddit is white, male, American and they’re triggered when someone points out that something that they did is bad, but I think that that commentary was not needed, not racist per se, but id have been nicer if you only said, big man over there or something like that, or if needed spend more time clarifying yourself. Like it or not a lot of people (i don’t think most of them btw) use black as an insult so calling someone black when you both don’t know each other can be weird and he might even think that you were trying to depreciate him. For example imagine that you called someone that fat guy over there, yes he might be fat, yes fat per se isn’t an insult but there are people who use it that way so we have to be careful with that word

I have learned that it’s sort of a bad flavor to use both “big” and “black” together in that way. I would just say black. Or if they’re big enough that that becomes an important description, just say “big” and leave their race out of it. Do you live in California, by any chance? If that’s the Never underestimate a woman who loves Eeyore shirt also I will do this case, anything you say will be considered racist, so there’s no point in worrying about that. it’s not racist but it’s so unnecessary and rude to only refer to his race as if that’s all there is to him. also instead of ‘big’ it should always be ‘tall’, instead of black you could have referenced something he’d recently done or said or what he was wearing. It totally feels racist to say that if you are white but I’ve never met anyone who thinks it actually is haha it’s kinda funny really.
