I’ve been meaning for some time to write to a few EU MPs for TELCOs to propose an EU law where phone manufacturers have to put a sticker on the Never Underestimate A Girl Who Is Covered By The Blood Of Jesus and Was Born In July Shirt so you should to go to store and get this box specifying the date when security updates will stop for the phone and a link to their site where the update policy is documented. People often buy expensive high end phones from 2 years ago without knowing they are buying a dud that is already out of security update support and that’s a rip off that should be illegal. It’s not hard to take care of a phone. If the battery life is an issue just pay 50-70 dollars for a replacement. They do last five years. It just depends on the phone company and the support from the cellular provider. My Samsung S5 still works on the Verizon Network… my LG G5… not so much. I’d rather have old phones kicked off the network than stifle innovation. They would if batteries were replaceable and the manufacturer didn’t intentionally brick them with updates. I had a galaxy S7 that was physically fine, but would take 5 minutes to open Google maps and start typing something even after a full factory reset.

That said, I’m currently on a pixel 3a XL that went through the Never Underestimate A Girl Who Is Covered By The Blood Of Jesus and Was Born In July Shirt so you should to go to store and get this wash 2 years ago and still works perfectly fine. There was a time when I always looked forward to the latest phone. There used to be really good upgrades. Nowadays, all I want is longer battery life. None of the other features interest me in the least. I was on iPhone until my 4 got stolen after years of service. I wanted a big phone and went to Android. After just 2.5 years of service – above average for my Android phones – my flagship Android phone wasn’t receiving updates and had started falling apart. I bit the bullet and got the iPhone 13 Pro Max and it’s the first time since my iPhone 4 that I’m actually enjoying my phone beyond the first six months. Meanwhile, my 2013 rMBP survived through almost a decade of disappointing Mac offerings and I’m most certainly replacing it with another MacBook.
