We all collectively need to stand up for ourselves against these blood-sucking corporations. Get everything in writing – no compromise on this. Also when you get it in writing get create timeline and money numbers defined. Well, if they decide they don’t like you in the role they can always take you out of it again, which presumably would come with the pay going away too. They’re just trying to get you to do the higher level work without the higher level pay or benefits for a while. You need to decide if that’s a position you want enough that you won’t risk it by putting your foot down. In all likelihood this “Trial period” is going to last far too long, and then they’ll either lowball you with the raise offer anyway, or flat out replace you once they find whoever they actually want.

You need to make it clear that you want at a bare minimum to get these promises in writing, with specific dates and numbers attached. Get it in writing, and ask explicitely why your old boss was fired, even sign an NDA to get that information. They just want free management.
