On the NCAA Boise State Broncos It’s In My DNA Family Tradition Passed Down For Years Shirt Furthermore, I will do this pessimistic side, it could very well be that they are looking for you to hold down the fort for free until they can hire someone for real. On the optimistic side, it could be an opportunity for you. You want to get it in writing – work with them to put together a career development plan with specific metrics. Make sure it includes the position description and roles/duties and lists how you are doing with meeting those requirement. List out what good things you are brining to the table and areas for improvement/training/mentoring. It should include specific things that need to be accomplished to meet those metrics and set periods of time for reviewing them. Have them agree to not look to hire anyone until after you’ve had a decent chance to prove yourself based on the development plan. Tell you and agree to how much of a pay increase you will be getting if you stay in the new role. Make sure its not below your industry standard for that role.

Personally, if the ‘trial’ would be more than a few weeks, I would want the increase in pay to go with the increase in responsibilities even if temporarily. That shows they are serious about it. Don’t do it. The company my son works for started getting rid of people including some above him. Next thing you know he’s cross-training and doing his job plus the job of 5 or 6 others from different departments. They were extremely satisfied with his work. How was he rewarded? No pay raise for the last two years and not even enrolled in the jelly of the month club as a bonus. Luckily, he’s back to just doing one job now…. most of the time. Take note of the amount of people who said this has happened to them, but they never actually got the raise. I’m also one. Was told I needed to prove myself as lead designer, 2 years later when I got fed up and quit, they needed to hire 3 people immediately just to try to keep up with my output.
