It was in that moment while feverishly scrolling for sweatshirt inspiration, that I found myself bookmarking Bieber’s Instagram page. Where had he gotten all those bright hoodies and sweatpants from, I wondered? (To myNational rural letter carriers’ association operation covid-19 2020 enduring clusterfuck shirt and I will buy this chagrin, I discovered that many of them seemed to be one-of-a-kind Drew House samples and weren’t up for sale—trust me, I checked.) This sudden change of heart felt almost like a dirty little secret. Was I losing my fashion identity? Had I officially descended into solitary madness? I desperately needed a reality check. After all, even some of Bieber’s own fans have voiced their ambivalence about his flashy loungewear fits. “Sir, how do you walk in these pants,” wrote one user under a photo of Bieber in drop-crotch trousers; “This pic reminded me of Guy Fieri,” wrote another, in response to a photo of Bieber in a purple Lakers bomber jacket, styled with a pink Drew House hoodie under it.

To me, Bieber’s vibrant outfits don’t read so out there. I’d argue that the National rural letter carriers’ association operation covid-19 2020 enduring clusterfuck shirt and I will buy this singer has been ahead of the curve all along. Long before sheltering in place became the norm, he found a way to be comfortable without losing a sense of personality and flair. (That’s basically the style M.O. for Zoom right there!) The closer I examine his fashion choices, the more I appreciate his ability to toe the line between good taste and bad taste in a laid-back way. A hoodie in a bright tie-dye is suddenly not just a hoodie, it’s a statement piece! Same goes for his beloved faux fur slippers: Gucci even did them. At a time when so many celebrities play it safe, both on the red carpet and off-duty, his willingness to walk on the wild side is uttering refreshing.
