OP I clicked your title with a completely different answer in mind. Then I read your story. Setting him up to fail? I work full time and cook literally every meal for my wife and daughter. I’m happy to do this Namaste Spooky Yoga Skeleton Halloween Macabre Tarot Card T-Shirt and by the same token and and I know I’m nothing special. Your dude’s a major fucking loser. He needs professional help. Exactly, I cook most days even if it’s just pasta with defrosted batch cooked sauce. Pasta sauce = panful of fresh tomatoes, 2tbsp of butter, 1 onion. Simmer for one hour and season. That’s it. Serve with grated cheese and fresh basil – it’s not hard! He doesn’t have kids or any responsibilities, I used to ask him why he didn’t give it an hour on a night to practise and he’s like, oh I don’t have time. I have two kids, two cats and commute to work and still find time. He was purposely fucking things up, so you’d never ask anything of him again. It’s called weaponized incompetence. He hoped to turn you into his bangmaid. Do not give him a second chance. It will not get better. Don’t take him back unless you really want another child , because that’s all he’ll ever be. Your mother is completely right, and your friends can take him in if they really want him.

Eggs Benedict isn’t a beginner level dish, but he didn’t even have to make the Namaste Spooky Yoga Skeleton Halloween Macabre Tarot Card T-Shirt and by the same token and hollandaise sauce — just heat the pre-made sauce, poach an egg, fry up some bacon or ham, and put a muffin in the toaster. Assemble. I absolutely loathe the “just tell me what to do and I’ll do it!” approach some men take for household tasks. A grown ass man should be able to look around and notice things need to be done. Litter box full? Clean it. Laundry piling up? Do it. Dirt on the floor? Sweep it. He won’t magically become better at this. He has to want to better himself. You’d likely spend years growing ever more resentful over his ineptitude if you hadn’t broken it off. You made the right choice. That was it, I even picked the fucking dish. It’s making me fume thinking about it. He could have gone and got stuff from a local bakery – another commenter pointed this out.
