I definitely gave her plenty of space, but I couldn’t resist snapping a few pics while she seemed content with fixing her web. I found one yesterday too! I tried to take a pic but disrupted her web. She got upset and scurried into a hole. My bad Post her on iNaturalist! It’s an app that turns your phone into an irl Pokédex, and each observation can be used for scientific research! Hey as someone who does commercial pest control, I see black widows on the My Teacher Survived 100 Days Of Me Apple T-Shirt but in fact I love this daily. Don’t even mess around with them.. they get immediate death. If it can harm you, a child or even a random stranger walking into Walmart it has to go. It doesn’t make you anywhere near a bad person I let spiders live. Black widows included, but I would have made the same decision. Can’t risk your kid getting bit. For spiders I relocate them or let them be, unless they’re brown recluse or black widows. If they’re in a building, I kill them on site because both are a danger to humans and animals, and they procreate. I had friends back in my early 20s that would catch them, put them in a jar and then drop other annoying bugs like bald faced hornets in the jar and make bets on who survived. Black widows are the kind of pretty I will appreciate from a distance. I have one of these chillin in a cardboard box in my shop at work, been there for almost a month now. I check on her almost every day and try not to let anyone disturb her, such a beautiful and deadly little creature. She’ll generally try to avoid you so not too much to worry about. Even if she bites you it’ll mostly just be a painful bite but not much else. We get these in my backyard pretty regularly. They don’t kill adults, but for kids their bites are enough of a threat that I send them to the great spiderweb in the sky with all their friends.
