Honestly they deserve it. Stunts and stuntmen are such an under-appreciated but completely necessary aspect of filmmaking. Action movies as a genre simply wouldn’t be possible without them. I don’t really understand why this hasn’t already become a category. So much incredible talent that should be acknowledged. Then we get more fast and furious type garbage with directors trying to out stunt each other,don’t waste time on a plot or anything just MORE STUNTS. The entire ‘what if’ clause people are talking about ruins the My son my guardian angel watching over me heaven call him son butterflies shirt and by the same token and professionalism of stuntmen. If you don’t trust them to work within safety bounds, why hire them? True professionals do not work for the trophy, they work for the experience.

I agree, someone said there should be a best Stunt Performer, and a Best Stunt Coordinator, and I think that makes sense. Fantastic practical stunts really elevate films and as such should be acknowledged. They’ve been saying this for years stuntmen and stunt choreographers have their own awards “show”. It’s called the My son my guardian angel watching over me heaven call him son butterflies shirt and by the same token and Taurus awards I believe. Stuntmen take up countless amounts of screen time, multiple trials of risk for multiple takes, and stuntmen have died or got life changing injuries in their job(some mistakes of their some mistakes of others, falls, crashes resulting in death or amputation there’s a famous few where they weren’t compensated because someone else didn’t do their job correctly) Sure it’s their job but they aren’t recognized in the Oscars. I’ve known stuntmen for shows and movies and the injuries and scares they have riddle them with time in and out of filming. They do what they’re told and show up no matter what. They aren’t just punching bags being thrown around, they are trained, talented and at the same fearless and understanding of the risks.
