Some just are subpar even if you typically play only one gender so I’d rather use the other one. Also I like seeing things I’m attracted to so why not? Same reason why some guys like using attractive females as profile pictures and vice versa. Atleast for me, they generally have cooler combat animations in melee speaking for mmorpgs. The castings animations are 50/50 imo. However, sometimes gear changes that. For example, in WoW (non retail, never got into the new xpac so not sure of animations changed much) undead females do flippy flips while attacking. But male orc warriors look better in the plate armor imo. In the end it boils down to player preference, but this is why I choose certain genders/races when creating a character. The racials themselves generally are a min max thing and I’m not worried about the 1-2% I can get from choosing the most optimal combos. 3rd person games, a slender character is an advantage. Males are bulkier and take up more of the screen obscuring your view.

I’m playing an avatar, either pre-made or made by choice with its own history. I don’t look at it as “playing my gender or not”. Yeah, some young guys will be like “Well, I’d rather look at a juicy booty” or some shit, but I key myself into the My god is an awesome god cross shirt Also,I will get this game world. I’m not worried if who I’m controlling reflects me. When you read a book, do you worry if the character is your gender or not? Can you not enjoy perspectives that aren’t your own? Why wouldn’t they? Women play as men all the time….as I say that though I actually am thinking of all the girls I’ve played league with and they actually exclusively play female champs For me its mostly a mater of who has the best character model and a more interesting character development arc. Has nothing to do with wanting to be a female for me. For me, I’ve found that in Japanese/anime-ish games, the female character designs tend to have a more thoughtful design, and in American games, the male ones tend to be better. i.e. for me, female Byleth > male byleth, but Male Shepard > Female Shepard. I’m either doing it for myself to have some eye candy (modded skyrim mostly) or I do it for the bois (picking the “best” looking skin). i don’t want to spend the next 2000 hrs of my life staring at another dude… that’s my excuse anyway. also in a lot of games the female hit boxes are smaller
