I know many American parents who don’t kick their kids out at 18. In fact, I only know of one person who was kicked out at 18. It is very common for kids to still live at home after they turn 18. “Americans” don’t do this. I’ve heard about it online but never once seen it or heard of it in real life. You’re just taking a random thing that you heard of and deciding to make it a stereotype to apply to an entire country of 350 million people. My sister and I lived in our Dad’s house long past 18, even after he got remarried and built another home for himself and his wife. He said we always had a place to stay as long as we were in school, working and saving money, and we only paid utilities. Unfortunately, he also said that if he had a son, things would have been much different for him, so that part isn’t great, but we are from a culture where that’s kind of expected. I grew up in a neighborhood where most families were either Italian, East Asian or Jewish, and many of them didn’t expect their daughters to move out at 18 either. If they went to university out of state, most of them came back home after graduation. In some cultures, it comes from family closeness, and in others, it comes from misogyny, unfortunately. I can’t speak on men/boys, as I don’t have that experience.

I can answer this. Americans are assholes. They’re all about their “individuality” and having a close family keeps you from being an individual. It’s really stupid. Also, I’m American but my family on both sides are all immigrants. We’re super close and I lived at home to save money despite having a great job. First off- not all parents kick their kids out at 18, especially if they’re not trouble makers. Those that get kicked out at 18 are likely also the ones that want to sit in their room all day playing video games and eating Hot Pockets and vaping while mommy still does their laundry and cleans up after them. Parents job is to raise kids. It’s not to take care of adults who want to mooch of them as long as possible
