Yeah I don’t entirely get it either. It’s not like most parents would rent out the Murphy Chocolate World Eddie Sexual 88_ Tour Movie Shirt also I will do this room, it would just become storage or guest room. Heating wouldn’t really change with an extra person in the house. Electricity up a bit and higher food costs I guess. When I stayed with my parents between renting and buying for a few months I just bought and cooked some family meals. They liked having me in the house again after a good decade of being away. No need to make it some strange business agreement. This how I feel. It feels like i’m in bizarro world reading most of these replies. Like do the parents not love their kids? These aren’t random people they’re renting a room to, it’s their children. Firstly, not all families have the luxury of being able to financially support their adult children. Times are getting harder and some parents may really need their kids to contribute financially right now, no matter how much they love them. This was why I gave money to my parents from the month I started working a Saturday job at 16 – as a family we needed the money. Let’s not assume young people who contribute to family finances aren’t loved by their parents.

Secondly, OP has made it clear that their family can afford it, so this ‘keep’ would go into savings which would be given back to the Murphy Chocolate World Eddie Sexual 88_ Tour Movie Shirt also I will do this kids. They’re trying to teach them budgeting skills, not make a profit. The intentions here are good. My mum charged me 300 a month and I agree with you to an extent. She also did the thing OP is planning where she kept some of the money to give back to me later on. I think it really depends on the financial situation of the parents. If they’ll be out of pocket due to having to support adult children who are in full time work, then it’s fair to ask them to contribute a little, and it helps teach them how to budget so they don’t get a nasty surprise when they move out. But if they don’t need the money then it is a bit fucked to make your adult child pay rent, when they could be saving up as much as possible to get their own place and move on with their lives. Why have kids if you’re going to pounce on them as adults and try to bleed them dry?
