Obviously 4am on a work night is probably not the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this best time to be open, but I know some places that still did pretty brisk trade at 9-10pm. As someone who is in IT rather than economics, I would say it’s more about the need for work, but I would take the liberty of breaking it down a bit to give you something to go on. Let’s start with the obvious: More free time and time when a working person can walk to the store is certainly irrefutable. Then, perhaps the harder question: will there be more work? I’d rewrite it to more possible jobs. If we look at it without regard to money: more free time may or may not lead to the need for convenience services (masseur, cook,…) but more importantly, more people will be able to work in the same position. 3 people will do as much work as one does today. So again, probably obvious but probably true that the number of jobs would go up.

The real question the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this OP has is probably then: is it fundable? In terms of money, probably not, but I can say that enough jobs will continue to be simplified by machines and we probably won’t invent many new ones. And I’m not just talking about those jobs at risk, I’m not just talking about farmers, factory people, or workers, but also programmers (like me), painters, actors,…. I don’t have the numbers handy, but I know I’ve read that we spend a lot more time working on average with low individual productivity in the US, while many other nations work fewer hours on average but have higher individual productivity in general… so in theory it should work out if you pay people for fewer hours and get higher productivity returns, then you can produce more output and have additional funds to hire more people. My parents could afford 3 kids and a house on one salary, whereas we struggle to afford a house and 2 dogs on two salaries.
And tech has only improved since. I would know, I am one of the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this people building software to help people get more work done or even to automate a bunch of tasks. It’s entirely possible to work half as much as we currently do, because one generation ago, they could already do better than that. I’m not sure on the tech point, I read something recently where the jist of it was that new customer facing tech is basically shifting the work of sorting out an issue away from the provider to the customer which lowers the customer’s productivity whilst getting rid of provider employees. So for example, back in the day (TM lol) you could phone up a bank and ask an employee to sort an issue for you. Now you call a bank, press 47 buttons, puts you on hold for a hour whilst telling you that everyone else gets answers from the website.

Same thing with every single IT desk, I’ve actually had to sit through presentations on service now where they explicitly and proudly state that the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this point in the set up is to try and divert people away from submitting a ticket and onto an FAQ which I for one have never found able to actually help. Anyway, the end result is the same, a provider uses new technology to pass work from itself onto their customers and reduce their own headcount and therefore costs. This means you’ve more unemployment (or you’re shifting jobs away from dealing with people’s problems into something else) and service users have to dedicate more time to addressing issues which lowers their own productivity too. Maybe one day the technology will actually improve (e.g. with LLMs) so the promise of technology actually helping customers works but right now it doesn’t seem to make things more efficient for anyone other than a providers shareholders! That’s a great example of companies shifting work onto customers. They’re also creating extra work only to squeeze profits from workers and customers alike while reducing their services.
There’s plenty of different ways they’re using tech against us, when it could have been used to improve our living standards (aside for giving us tech in our daily lives). Huh, this is the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this first time I’ve come across this kind of view and it’s fascinating to see. I’ve never thought of this kind of delegation as being more efficient. Then again I’m socially awkward so I tend to take options where I can figure things out with a website/system on my own because not having to bother anyone is a perceived upside Oh I believe it… unfortunately the problem isn’t easily fixed with science or math since it’s rooted in culture and emotion with people bragging about their “grindset”, and lil old office marms who complain about people who finish their work going home early despite having everything in order… That mindset wasn’t engineered by workers (mostly). At some point people will realize and reach critical mass, and things will change.
Employers need unemployment to be able to bargain lower salaries and make profit. It could happen in an ideal economic system but that’s just not how capitalism works. Or how logic works. many shops will be empty for hours every day, it’s a waste of resources. Those that have a market for a 18-24 hour day are generally already operating those times. Chances that a lot of people would end up working two shifts cause why not? Double the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this income, spend like money is gonna rot cause it might! Driving the inflation up cause now ur buying power went up ! And soon everyone will need to work two shifts out of necessity instead of choice, cause everything is so damn expensive! True, that’s why the economy shouldn’t be run like neo-liberism mandates but should instead be used to better allocate the resources to all those who need them. Like with an UBI.
That being said, I work in my family. Wife, kids…they visit stores during the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this day and do their thing. So to me that’s the real value of stores being open as they are. If you split it up throughout the day it might be better to get someone like me into a store….but I don’t want to go to the store in the first place. As it is now it’s more convenient for the folks with a day off or that don’t work to visit at their convenience instead of sporadic more rushed hours of the day/night. I had a job with this exact schedule, tbh for me the free time was just as much because those extra 2h were just my commute. Although it made shopping/appointments so much easier to do when your shift started at 1:30 pm Banks are a perfect example of this problem generally being open 9-5 when most people work, yet always get surprised at there being a lunch rush as it’s the only time many people can even go when they have free time or need an actual person. Where if their hours were shifted or expanded this pressure can be entirely removed and load spread across other times. Mobile banking has been extremely helpful, but it doesn’t solve everything.
Also if 10 and 12 hour shifts are seen as these magical fixes what’s wrong with 6? Most people are only productive about 3 hours of work so 6 makes more logical sense to improve efficiency. I feel like a more manageable approach is a 4-10 system rather than a 5-8. You still get 40 hours a week working 10 hours a day for 4 days and you’re guaranteed that one day off will be a weekday. Everyone would have one weekday to take care of anything that they need taken care of, as opposed to a 5-8 where if you’re lucky your days off include one weekday Nah. We really need to start moving away from the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this 40 hr work week. Society needs to set a plan to go to 36 hr, then 30, 24, 15…whatever…over a series of years. Automation and AI are making human labor less and less needed. Governments have been managing the issue so far by reducing the number of humans in the labor pool. Child labor laws, compulsory schooling, college funding, college for all, lowering mandatory retirement age. But it can only go so far. If we turn around some day and suddenly a bunch of people are out of work and not needed, and society was till set up on a 40hr a week system, it’s going to be massive shock and create huge social turmoil to adjust. If we gradually ease into it things will go much easier.
The dangerous part is- people tend to think very linearly. But technological improvement moves exponentially. The advancements you think are decades or a century away, might happen in years. People make the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this analogy about motor vehicles replacing horses and how ferriers and stable boys retrained as mechanics and gas station attendants. But we need to realize that this time we are the horses. Why not just do it in 2 shifts instead of 3 and have both be ~6 hours. Like 8am-2pm and 2pm-8pm if everything was opened from at least 8am to 8pm there would always be time to get anything you needed. Would also be pretty nice since the work life balance could be better and it could be more flexible with people working 4,5,6,or 7 days a week total depending on the hours they’d want to accrue. Also imagine getting off of work at 2pm or 8pm both options sound MUCH better than 5pm
My wife was adamant about doing hypno birthing, and it nearly cost us our marriage when I told her it was a crock of shit designed to extract money from anxious moms-to-be (in much nicer words). They sell the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this same “your body is designed to not feel the pain” schlock. Thirty hours into labor, with zero baby movement, she caved and got her water manually broken and opted for the epidural. She took a nap, and 4 hours later they came in to check, said the baby is basically here, she pushed for 15 minutes and we had a kid. That doesn’t make any sense. So God creates the pain but then also creates receptors to block the pain. Then why create the pain in the first place? The literal fucking Bible says that women will endure pain during childbirth as a result of the “original sin” of Eve disobeying God and eating from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Doped up or not, childbirth is not fucking fun.
No, your body realizes chemical that help you forget the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this pain of childbirth, you still feel all of it. Because god loves you. Childbirth is gonna hurt. Go into the process with that fact and do whatever you’d like with it, whether it be breathing, stretches*, drugs, whatever. *-A local meteorologist delivered naturally and did all sorts of exercises to get through the contractions. Badass. I’m old and when I had my 3 they didn’t have epidurals, you could get a spinal but not until 10cm, to push. So basically natural childbirth. For me and almost everyone I knew up until they started giving epidurals at 4-5 cm dilated we all basically said the contractions up until 5 cm were like really bad menstrual cramps. Once they started doing epidurals at 4-5cm everyone started saying how horrible the contractions were before they got the epidurals. It makes me wonder if so much of this is perception of pain based on comparison. For those of us years ago, we went through 5-10 centimeters with nothing. I can tell you that 8-10cm is objectively about 4-5 dx worse than 4 cm. Your entire body has a Will of its own and every nerve and muscle is literally agonized trying together the head to and through the cervix. You almost go into a fugue state so that once it’s over you can remember how brutal it was realistically but your brain kind of blocks your bodies memory of it.
Since epidurals wimen have no experience of 5-10 cm so in their minds 1-4 cm is the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this worst pain they’ve ever had while to us it was pretty much a breeze. I can’t think of any other reason there’s such a disparity in women’s experience of pain. My wife was too late for the epidural and had to tough it out, no drugs. I have never felt like less of a man, watching her go through that pain and knowing deep in my balls that she was experiencing something that I could never withstand. Ever since, I have taken grim pleasure in slapping down any unthinking expectant father who mindlessly holds forth on how well he’d endure extruding a small yet priceless watermelon through his nethers. Dude, just stfu and grab those ice chips. You are outclassed in every way.
I’m one of six kids… My Mom had all of us at home with a midwife…zero epidural, zero meds. My Dad described her once as having moments during the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this births where she was just in so much pain that it was like the word pain no longer had meaning to her. It was just some otherworld she went into in her mind where she could feel the grip of death itself while still alive, tell death and everyone to go fuck themselves, push the kid out, and then when it was done she would look over at him and demand to hold her baby and holy shit did he bring the child to her fast, because he had literally never seen such toughness. also, if she’s in the US, the pain wont necessarily come from the physical birth of the baby, but the thousands in medical bills that will try to bankrupt her, depending on her ability to pay. God’s brilliant design for childbirth indeed.
My coworker said she wasn’t scared for the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this labor of her first child, but he was terrified during her second child because she knew what was coming. She told me that while I was 8 months pregnant. Brain sure didn’t block the pain… Hahahahahaha if I had said this to my wife, she would have stabbed me in the spine so I could feel a 10th of what she went through (30 hours of backlabor good fucking luck doing that without drugs) TL:DR Humans are almost uniquely bad at childbirth, due to our evolution, our pelvis is the wrong way round, and our heads are too big. The two main evolutionary advantages we had were our ability to run efficiently, and our ability to problem solve, they were very effective advantages, and so they had a very rapid effect on our physiology. We went from quadrupedal to upright, and our heads grew.
Unfortunately both of those are very bad for a child birth. You now have a pelvis that is facing the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this wrong way, it’s trying to accommodate two large legs, and all the structural scaffolding they come with, as well as a pelvic opening large enough to accommodate the largest head to body ratio in nature. Now yes, we do have some physiological accommodations for childbirth, but they are half measures at best, ironically our best adaptation is our brain, midwifery/obstetrics is maybe the oldest form of medicine, with evidence going back at least 40000 years, probably longer. I wonder if this is the sister from the AITA post from today about calling their sister an idiot for believing she was going to experience a pain free childbirth because god “chose her”. Honey, the body isn’t designed for pregnancy. The fetus hijacks the body and redirects nutrients to itself. That’s how pregnancy works.
The main issue is that human heads have evolved to be larger over time due to intelligence. A babies head is barely small enough to pass through the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this pelvis, sometimes it can’t, which is why C sections are common. Humans also have some of the highest mother mortality rates because their pregnancy is more dangerous than other animals. I saw somewhere (so I’m sure it’s dead accurate ) that human babies are some of the most helpless newborns in the animal world. Partially because as we evolved to walking upright the pelvis shape changed, meaning babies had to become smaller in order to pass. Ive read that it has to do with the size of our brains. For the baby to fully develop in the womb, its brain would need to be larger and therefore less likely to pass through the birth canal without major complication. It is still a bad design, but a better compromise than fully cookin I realize it is probably just a word choice, but there was no “design” for the human body. Evolution doesn’t work that way. Think of it more as just endless trial and error and some things work better than others. Zero forethought.
It’s true. Like ever seen a newborn horse? That thing is up and running around in a matter of hours. We can’t get on our feet for a year or more. The fetus is a literal parasite that will take anything it needs long before the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this mother gets nutrients. And then your cute little parasite is born and does so for the rest of your life. POV: you’re panicking about how painful your ‘getting hit in the head with a sledgehammer’ is going to feel. But then you remember your imaginary friend’s perfect design for pain neurons during ‘getting hit in the head with a sledgehammer.” A woman giving birth has one foot on the grave because it exceeds (5x iirc) the normal pain threshold for a human. Other labor departments would be inhumane enough not to give a woman an epidural because it prolongs labor which is a strain on the hcw.
Don’t they specifically mention when Adam and Eve are ejected from Eden that now childbirth will hurt for all women as punishment for original sin. I’m pretty sure I distinctly remember that being a thing in the MLB Aaron Judge New York Yankees Takes The Major League Lead In Home Runs With No. 13 Signature Poster shirt besides I will buy this bible… I mean… Going by Bible – childbirth is literally a punishment by God. It’s not meant to be a pleasant experience. Relying on pain relief from the same god that sent his son to get tortured and murdered to prove his love for us. I mean she’s not entirely wrong, womens bodies do try to do what they can to block the pain with hormones, but your brain simply isn’t going to release enough chemicals to block even half of that shit unless you’re literally about to die. “To the woman he said, ‘I will make your pains in childbearing very severe; with painful labor you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.’ She’ll be screaming for Jesus when she’s pushing out a football through her little doozie, especially if she gets an episiotomy. Doesn’t help that woman are forced to give birth in an unnatural position. You’re not supposed to lie down while you do it I’m pretty sure what she’s describing is just blacking out under extreme pain. And you can’t push while you’re blacked out.
