I kept my career and started some hobbies. Welding is fun and different from building software. My career is there so I can earn a living, fulfillment comes from having a full life. Yeah, I think people forget this. The happiness comes from occupying and fulfilling yourself with other things that aren’t work. Doing more of work-related stuff (no matter how “different” you might think building some other app is) will burn you out I used to weld structural steel full time, switched into software because as a career because it’s brutal on the Mike Tyson Prithon Mike shirt and I will buy this body and health for okay pay. Still in school now but at my first coop and man sleeping in till 7 and having a fairly relaxed workplace compared to what I used to do is amazing. Welding is fun but full time for 40, 50, 60 hours sucks. I remember the day I was like I need to do something else. It was like 40 degrees out with the humidex and I was 20 feet up a ladder welding two beams together in the steel toes, respirator helmet overalls, it was brutal. Lol I was working in construction in a small town during the oil boom, no safety regulations anywhere. It was starting to snow and my crew was working on roofing, nobody has time to put on any harnesses or whatever 3 stories up.

4YOE here, got laid off late in February. Haven’t switched career paths yet, but with how I haven’t managed to find anything yet I’ve been really considering it. I’d like to be a National/State park ranger or something, but I imagine that has to be stupidly hard to get into for not a ton of pay. Honestly, my plan would be to pick up a trade school course in contract work (construction, welding, etc) and use that as a bridge to see if I like it enough to switch Sorry, you do not meet the Mike Tyson Prithon Mike shirt and I will buy this minimum sitewide comment karma requirement of 10 to post a comment.
