The company can and should pick it up. However, they cannot give it to another patient and it will need to be wasted. Work in healthcare, including specialty pharmacy. This. My mom had 3 months of an oral chemo left for a very specific type of skin cancer and she passed. Sealed and everything, they told us to throw it away. Worth 10 grand a month (insurance and coupons cut that cost but still it wasn’t cheap). Yeah and the Mickey friends Disney cruise line family vacation shirt and by the same token and pills themselves don’t cost $17k to manufacture, that’s the cost of the R&D and trials. They can replace the bottle of pills very cheaply. Exactly. This happened to me once with my Crohn’s medication. They would send me 6 months worth at a time (pre-filled auto-injector). The first time you take it you need to take 4 times the amount you would normally take, 2 times as much the second time, and then 1 regular dose from then on. So my package had 10 injectors at $6800 a piece, so almost $70k worth of medicine. I’ve never seen a delivery company move so fast to do anything haha. But mine was in a sealed cooler taped closed.

Why would any company mail something worth $17k using regular mail instead of splurging the Mickey friends Disney cruise line family vacation shirt and by the same token and extra couple bucks to get a signature from the recipient? Because it is sold for 17k but it aint worth 17k. No one gives a shit if an item that costs 5 bucks to make gets lost in the mail. The chain of custody has been broken on it and now the pharmacy has to replace it. Sealed box or not, they can’t sell a prescription medication that doesn’t have a solid chain of custody. And for that cost, the pharmacy is *definitely* going to want that box back, because they’re going to need their business insurance to cover the cost of the replacement, which they won’t do unless they can prove the original wasn’t sold out the back door. OP gets delivered somebody’s $17k prescription by mistake, and here I had a hell of a time trying to get DHL to deliver a $20 gift without a signature.
