Yeah, then you don’t get to go or you need to save more and budget. There’s a lot of traveler entitlement that consumers think they should be able to have luxury accoms with kitchens and it be affordable without realizing for decades, this is how travel worked. It’s like there is some weird ass collective amnesia. It wasn’t normal to be able to travel like this for every single occasion. Traveling for a whole month? That’s hellllla fucking privileged. Getting to book a shore house or cabin was often through local timeshare/property managers. People often lose on owning vacation rentals and kept them only because they either inherited with it or deeply loved the Mickey black sabbath paranoid shirt Additionally,I will love this place and used it frequently. Airbnb is part of the “Millennial Lifestyle Subsidy” where none of these things were ever actually affordable to the middle class, but these “tech companies” used subsidies from investor dollars to get people hooked on the idea, with the intent to make money by either raising the price (ubers are far more expensive than cabs now in many places) or by selling data (social media companies) or slowly raising fees (Airbnb, food ordering apps.)

What these companies should’ve done is make tech for industries that would’ve improved it. Like uber should’ve just sold that tech to cab companies because yeah, they did need to modernize. Instead, they became a middle man, union-busting, gig laborer exploitation ‘service’ that holds somehow zero accountability to their workers or their customers. I am so sorry what a miserable way to spend hours and hours of your vaca. I really think the worst is that they abandon you to “the next shift (usually after not calling back for hours, you start all over, get different answers and it is ALL up to you. They dont give a shit if you have to sleep in your car and will NOT cover additional costs from last minute cancellations, host nonresponse or unacceptable conditions. Sadly airbnb has some great properties and fantastic hosts, I really fault airbnb (lack of) support and their good hosts then suffer as well. I think their business, the traffic at their good hosts, and their customer base would all i,prove if they just immediately housed people, absorbed the extra cost and immediately banned bad hosts (the ones who ghost or last-minute cancel without valid reasons). By doing the rebooking themselves, they arent allowing bad guests to make money and moving where you stay is always a hassle, so I dont think the policy would be abused. Just the thought of the potential of having a trip like yours (and mine, and…) is losing them a LOT of business. And for those who say, just get a hotel, kids, inability to cook, etc. include many reasons to choose a home; that said, I havent had the same problem with vrbo support and booking has a guarantee.
