You would have to have an aversion to more than just cheese/dairy. If I had to guess, it would be more of a dairy sensitivity/allergy and your body’s reaction to even just seeing it is telling you to avoid it like the Michael Pittman Jr Indianapolis Player Silhouette T-Shirt in other words I will buy this plague. I’m probably lactose intolerant but of course, have no idea because I would have to drink a bunch of milk and then wait without hurling. Fortunately, I get enough Vit D and iron and fats elsewhere to not need dairy and so happy non-dairy is becoming more and more of a thing in restaurants and grocery stores. I just hate almost all American food because I always have to check about not adding cheese (salad? nope, some lettuce and huge pile of cheddar bits!) I have aversions like this but it’s multiple foods. Scent isn’t always a trigger but it really is with pork. I have had this my entire life but wasn’t diagnosed till 40. My issues are sensory and textural, with a major dose of nausea. Intake disorder is the right term…it’s just hard to get nutrients in you.

I was in a solid recovery space for about six months and suddenly found myself unable to interact with food again. Hello! I have ARFID! It’s a very real disorder and is very, very, VERY annoying to put it very lightly. It’s been difficult and untreated, leading it to continue into my adult life. It definitely needs more research put into it as the causes of it can be bizarre. I know others who have the disorder who have had it triggered in adult life, and it can be treated by some sort of trauma, but there are also cases of it being caused by an ear infection, or after surgery for example. It’s a very unusual thing! I’d honestly trade a village to eat a burger one day. I just read the article and actually didn’t realize that a lot of it has to do with fear surrounding things like choking, I found that to be really interesting. In your opinion, is that typically a product of someone having choked before and a fear was developed? Or does it usually have no “reason”? If this is too personal, feel free to ignore, just hoping to learn.
