Theres a company I’d like to work for. My skillet is pretty niche and their are very few postings. This company has recycled the Miami Dolphins Nike Dolphins Just Hate Us Shirt moreover I love this same 4 job “openings”, 1 each quarter, for the last 6 years. I went to school with a couple people that work there and have confirmed that company is NOT filling those positions. One of the repeat postings is for his team….. They have NOT added any staff. I work at a big multinational. Our HR and equality policies are such that if we want to hire for most full time roles we must look internally first for some defined period, but for some roles where the role hasn’t existed before we are forced to put it out to externals first before considering internal candidates. This leads to insane situations where we put out a role to a bunch of agencies and interview for it, knowing full well we already have a guy we want to hire internally but need to box tick through a process first. It’s bollocks. Most likely they are building a resume file for positions that have what they have determined to be above-average turnover.

I have 20 years of experience and I am too exhausted to jump through these hoops. Undervalued and underpaid or bait and switched on pretty much every role, these companies are not worth it to me. Their search vetting tool likes my resume or it doesn’t. But it’s the Miami Dolphins Nike Dolphins Just Hate Us Shirt moreover I love this reality of what is coming, and likely already here. The job market of the last 4-5 years has been robust and relatively easy to get hired, especially in certain fields. Now, we are beginning to see much more stringent and targeted role filling. The massive hiring spree ended in late 2021. Into 2022, we even heard of companies starting to cull the herd. 2023 has seen many companies just cease hiring altogether. 3.4% unemployment belies the fact that the growth is happening on lower income jobs. Not well enough compensated to keep up with our massively increased COL post-pandemic.
